Approx. how many servings of white beans in a 5 gallon pot? I'm cooking in a benefit next week and have only cooked pastalaya in this pot. Also any advise for the beans?

wait......you're doing white beans as a "main dish"?

128 oz in a gallon
640 oz in 5 gallons
8 oz serving = 80
10 oz serving = 64

What is wrong with that?
Probably cook five pounds in that pot but others may know better. I cook the 4 lb bags of Camelia red beans in a big stock pot so I'd guess at least five.
And five pounds of beans will feed a lot of people.
Now wasn't that helpful

White beans and ham over rice was our main dish for supper last night.

It'll easily handle 5-6 lbs of beans. I do 4 in an 18quart pot regularly with lots of space to spare.

A pound of red beans makes 8 cups, so you could get almost 10 pounds of beans in a 5 gallon pot. 2 pounds per gallon. Depends on how much meat goes in the pot, though.

6 pounds of rice, 6 pounds of chicken, and 6 pounds of sausage can go into a 5 gallon pot all at the same time...so I'd guess a 5 gallon pot would easily hold 15 pounds of beans with fixins.

A 5 gallon bucket holds 34 pounds of beans...want to rethink your not a chance comment?

There's a difference between "holding" and "cookin" 15 lbs of beans.

It can hold 34 pounds...but you can't cook 15 pounds???

Never cooked beans? They tend to grow just a bit during the process.

15 pounds is 44% capacity of a 5 gallon pot, you're left with 56% for beans to expand, I think you're ok.
Would like jambo to chime in

2 pounds of dry beans makes 1 gallon cooked with 1 1/2 pounds of meat. I've done the measuring.
2 lbs of dry beans is 5 cups. When cooked it becomes 16 cups.

I've come to add some scientific clarification. 1 pound of dry beans will yield 6 cups of cooked beans. So 15 pounds of dry beans will yield 90 cups of cooked beans or 5.675 gallons.
So, a 5 gallon pot will not hold 15 pounds of dry beans when cooked but it would technically hold 13 pounds without any meat

I guess I may have to do a Red Beans and Rice calculator after all.

My numbers are without meat, and my numbers are from the National Bean Institute

Pretty windy up in this bean thread.
I can cook a 2 lb camellia white or red in my 7.25 quart LeCrueset and it is FULL. That may have say 3 links of sausage.
So I'm still saying 5 pounds. Not only do beans expand and you have volume in meat but no one seems to realize you have volume of liquid as well. 6 pounds and you will be at the brim and stirring hot arse white beans all over your no wax floor.
