The book says it shouldn't be done, but plenty of people do it. Should I?

You are going to lose power out there and not know it...

I go in there multiple times a day every day

I had one in my utility room that had no conditioned air for years with no problem. Put a freezer alarm in it for $9.00. I have this alarm on my current indoor freezer and it works well. Alarm isn't very loud but I walk by the freezer multiple times a day.

Freezers and refrigerators are designed to operate in 70 degree environments and struggle when operated outdoors. Appliance life will be affected and it will use more power, but it will work fine.

I have two in my non airconditioned garage. Never had an issue. Both have power indicator lights and I walk by multiple times a day.

I have had a small chest freezer in the garage for 14 years with no issue. I now have had a fridge next to it for about 2 years with no issue.

You can freeze a thing of water and then place an object on top of the frozen water. If you open the lid and the object has dropped down and refroze in the ice then you know at sometime you defrosted enough for there to be an issue with the food

I've seen a freezer work outside at a camp in cocodrie for years (bait and ice freezer). Looks like absolute shite and I'm sure it will last much less than half the life of a freezer inside, but it's still kicking after 4 or 5 years of staring at the saltwater marsh. And it was a hand-me-down as well, so no telling how old it was to begin with.

My uncle has one outside his shop, the freezer has been outside 12-15 years and some how it hasn't missed a beat.

We've had an ice maker in an uncontrolled climate for 3 or 4 years near salt water,

Just make sure it isn't on a GFCI and you'll be ok.

if you don't have a beer ice box and a meat freezer in your shed you are doing it wrong
