I'm all for retaining proper perspective on the University begetting the Athletics Department, and subsequently, the football program, but to ignore the possibility that the investment (which regardless of perception, doesn't harm the academic budget one iota) although steep would have been just that -- an investment. Everyone deflecting this whole charade away from the main issue that CLM football is a dying beast is ignoring that a decline in the football program could result in a decline of TAF funding from those very same "ignorant," "football over academics" types.
If you try to force these people's hands by looking a gift horse in the mouth, you could very well likely screw the football program AND the University.
I just can't fathom why you would endanger by far the most profitable arm of the University's brand and expect the reaction to be anything but outrage... I can understand the theoretical parts of everything that transpired, and I guess it all really makes that much more sense when you understand that politics became the driving force behind all of this.
If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about who was right and wrong in this, I don't know what will. It was Trump vs. Sanders and Sanders came out on top. Let's hope that idealistic view of the world doesn't come crashing down on LSU Football when it is implemented in the real world.
