Prepare for the victim/race card to be played by Amite for years, now.
I was hoping that the judge would rule in favor of Amite, and St. James would destroy them.

That would have been nice too but it would basically be throwing the rule book away.

From the article
So basically they wouldn't have anyone left to play since any player who leaves the bench for a fight is suspended. So they try to say forfeit a meaningless game next year, good try but take your medicine.

If we get sanctioned so we have to forfeit a game - a regular season game next year - or players have to sit out, that's something we can live. We just felt they made an example of Amite High School and that the remedy is extremely harsh," said Moody.

Has that ever made any difference before?

The judge also said they cannot rule on this case, mainly because LHSAA is a private organization.

I've explained this before. That case only deals with the public records doctrine - that's it. LHSAA is a semi public institution. Courts both in Louisiana and around the country have found so consistently.

What I heard on someone's radio show the other day was that about 5-6 players actually stayed on the bench. In addition you've got the 11 players on the field already for the TD/XP who probably shouldn't be automatically suspended for leaving the bench (but may otherwise be suspended for conduct). But then I've also heard there was no one on the bench.
I agree that Amite should be banned from the playoffs but the punishment for Bogalusa needs to fit. Maybe bar them from the playoffs next year.

To me this is unacceptable. If the penalty for leaving the bench area is suspension for the next game, then no hearing is needed and the suspensions should have been issued for the first regular season game for Bogalusa next year.
What about seniors? I guess they just get away with it?
Not likely. The sportsmanship hearing could effect the eligibility of seniors in other sports as well. So a player involved in the fight that plays baseball could be ineligible for baseball season this year. The coach will also be suspended for several games as well in addition to not being able to compete in playoffs, ect.

This is not correct.
This is what the articles says:
quote:
Judge William Morvant, who has some experience in similar cases, ruled that the court does not have the jurisdiction or power to rule in the case involving Amite High School, the Tangipahoa School Board and the LHSAA.

And the Lutcher excuses have already started.
I have no dog in this fight. Just pointing out that the sanctions can potentially affect innocent third parties.

Weren't there lots of helmets removed and few being swung?
How is it in our iPhone age, there is not one, single, video of this out there? I mean, nearly every little confrontation, scene, planned beat down, whatever, and there are idiots filming it. How at a game with hundreds of spectators and phones did NO ONE even record a second of it?
As of Wednesday night, when Mr. Bonine was on WWL, the only acceptable witness testimony was that of the seven on-field officials, the two pressbox officials. The huddle video showed nothing. I find this so difficult to believe.

Right, so at some point down the road, the players will be suspended, probably for one LHSAA contest, the first one they would participate in after the hearing. Be it basketball, baseball, next football season, etc.
Meanwhile, the Amite players were suspended immediately without a hearing for the next game.
That's my point. The hearing should have been held at the same time for both schools, and the punishments handed down at the same time.
As an alternative, when the LHSAA announced the suspensions for the Amite players for the next game, they also should have announced suspensions for the Bogalusa players "for the next scheduled contest".
I have no real issue with the suspensions for the players that left the bench area, but I have a big issue in how the LHSAA is handling this. Which is about par for the course with that organization.
Further, the players that were on the field when the fight broke out, they did not "leave the bench" to fight, so how are they suspended?

I am very impressed with how Bonine handled the situation. His judgment was swift and firm and went directly as the rulebook states, which is how it should be. He stuck to his guns and didn't back down, despite the pressure. Props to him.
And no offense to the butthurt Amite folks, but they weren't going to beat St. James with Lowell Narcisse anyways.

You forgot to add... "For one of the two teams involved"
I still don't understand how he can issue immediate penalties only against one of the teams involved.
Posted on 12/4/15 at 5:43 pm to LSUFanHouston
Because that team can't play again until next year so what could immediately be done?

This is all about nothing anyway. The public school 3A class is pretty much garbage. Watered down like a wedding high ball

Bogalousa was not included because Amite requested an emergency appeal to be reinstated into the playoffs. Time was a factor. Amite was given a hearing with the facts that were known and could be proven at the time. Both schools are required to now go through a full sportsmanship hearing. So we still do not know the final outcome for Bogalousa or Amite. That was not the purpose of Wednesday's hearing before the Executive Committee.
The players that were on the field did not leave the bench. But some were fighting which would results in ejections and suspensions as well.
