Why does OP think it's poached?

Ling story short, deer had to travel over 3 miles in any direction for it to be off land conto led by a very small group of farmers.
Guy showing off pics is recognized by friend of landowner. Guy has no known permission anywhere near the area thus deer is normally found.
Friend of friend contacted us telling us it had been poached. Lots of little circumstantial things, but everything points to being illegal. Game wardens are looking into it.

Looks like he just cut the head off to make a quick getaway. That's why I think it was definitely poached. He got what he wanted, the horns. I'm betting the carcass is still laying on your land somewhere.

Good, I hope they nail him. Could be a simple as them asking him to take them to his stand and show him the blood

If he poached it, it shouldn't be hard to catch him in a lie. If he did, I hope they string his arse up.

That is part of it. Keep on doing what you're doing. Kill some does to take the edge off.

You're clueless, that deer scores well over 130.
I'll let y'all put it in a calculator and see what you get. I figure ol' neckbeard is a standard sized male whose hand is 3-3.5" wide. Even with them sausage fingers.
Mainframe 4 x 4. Short main beams but I'll give him 18" as an overestimate. Let's give him 15" tip to tip and a 18" greatest spread. I'm going 8" on the brow and G2. Let's give him 6" on the G3. 3" bases and circumfenence which he doesn't make but the hell with it. No accounting for junk were looking at a 115-120" deer tops. If ya think he packs in another 10-15" of junk well there's your 130. I personally think he hits the 120's and that's about it.
But I don't know nothing bout killing no deer...
OP, I'm sorry the deer you were after got killed. I agree, he's a mature deer that would make a good trophy. The rack has a lot of character.
Trophy leases/clubs can be frustrating. The first few years generally aren't very productive as you build the age of the bucks in the herd. Once things do kick in the Bucks are wiser than ever and it seems a few guys have all the luck. It's all part of the game and your time will come.
Cheers!

I owe you an apology. I broke out the pen and paper and eyeball scored him using neck beard for scale. I got him grossing 134 with the junk. Those short tines killed his score. Sorry bout the insult.

That sucks. That's the problem with not having a fence

I'm not a hunter but enjoy reading about what you guys are up to.
I've gotta say, speaking of fat, that deer looks like he is getting plenty to eat.

Yeah, killed one two years ago that looked like a horse with antlers. Was over 250 pounds.

If you're hunting in the middle of 20k acres controlled by 4 landowners, and they're all on a management program, then keep to your standards. It will pay off in the long run.

Well, I hunt about 50 acres in SE Alabama and haven't seen a deer at all. My trail cam is capturing a bunch at night but nothing during the day.
My camera recently captured a pic of a nice 3.5-4 year old 8 point with a beautiful spread. I'm concerned someone else will get him before I do. I passed on him last year when he was a big six point.
I'm thinking that the warm temps and full moon are both hampering my efforts. Any advice other than to keep plugging away?

Moon and temps are hurting most this week. However, managing deer on 50 acres is impossible unless the neighbors are on the same page. You can shoot what you want and what makes you feel like an ethical hunter but those deer are just passing through your block and roaming a mile or two (up to 5 in the rut from what I'm told).
I learned this the hard way hunting in 40 acres for 4 years. I let 4pts go and shot 6 or above. Never saw more than one 6 point during day light and he was dropped.
Now I'm on 2500 acres in an area of at least 10,000 acres and management is still hard since all the coonasses are shoot on site.

If you've got everyone within that 20,000 acres on the same page, you should be growing some very nice bucks, granted that's your goal. I'm in a similar situation on my place in southern Illinois, however everyone does their best to let the bucks reach 5. There are close to 14,000 acres in the area and we all do our best to stay in touch with each other, share trail camera pictures and communicate about what we kill.
Because of that I've seen dozens of mature deer move 2 or 3 miles during hunting season. One day these bucks are on me and two days later a friend kills one 2 miles away.
Again, 20K acres is more than enough to grow some big deer, you just need to make sure everyone is on the same page. I know it can be frustrating and in the end there's little that can be done to prevent poachers but keep passing them if you're looking to kill only older deer.

You don't think that buck has 3 in bases? I guarantee you he averages more than 3 in in circumference measurements.

Deer was poached, turns out I know all three of the dumbasses who were in the truck when shot. Two were former students. Rack was taken and fines given. I'm going to work on getting a few more of the pics they were dumb enough to send around. Getting a few more details later but sounds like it was killed within 1/2 mile of my favorite stand.
