I ddn't know there was this much interest in old Coleman stoves and lanterns. I was cleaning out my garage several weeks ago and placed a 1960's era two burner and lantern on the street. Someone picked them up before the trash man came the next morning. Hope it was another OBER!

Got my favorites on display on the mantle...
Both are model 220K, I sought that out for interchangable parts. Both work. One is 3/1981 and the other is my birth month and year 11/1981.
I also have a 2 burner stove and the oven attachment to make biscuits.

The one on the left appears to be a Model 228F, the one on the right is probably a Model 242.
The one on the right is actually a 249. The other is a 228j.

Worked ok but I now have this kerosene heater and it works very well.
They are good, black boogers and all.

I bought this one from an old high school friend a couple of years ago. He's into collecting and restoring them.
'72 model 220E (if I remember correctly)

My grandpa had some old ones that ended up who knows where after he passed.
By chance I came across my first lantern in a pawn shop, and bought it because I remembered my grandpa's old ones.
Well, the first one was a doozy, but after changing out the generator, pump, mantles, etc. I learned a lot about them both by trial and error and watching youtube videos about restoration.
Before I knew it, I was all caught up in a new hobby. I found the second one that was the same model on ebay listed as "not operational" for $10. After changing out it's $9 dollar generator and getting some new mantles it was running like a champ.
Like I said, I got the same models so I can have extra parts that work for both, and have a complete one if parts ever became unavailable after something quit working.

The wide brim marks it as a 228, aka "Big Hat". Which model I'm not sure, the chimney changed from the E model to the F. After that, it's hard to tell them apart.

When we cleaned my grandfathers' shed a couple years ago I found an old 1954 Sears lantern.
Those lanterns were made by Coleman for Sears. Lot of parts interchange.
If any of you guys are interested, colemancollectorsforum.com is a great site. Some really serious collectors on there. And they are willing to help noobies (like me).

Here is mine, rescued it before mom threw it out. Even got the fuel with it. Says model 220J on it, I imagine nothing special but still cool.

New age stove, love it!
The lantern is a 242B model, mid 30's.

Thanks. I was thinking that my info might be wrong. I remember he told me the wrong thing to start with, then I researched and found out it was something else. I have it written down somewhere, I think. But, 228 does sound right, and I know it's a "big hat".
