Off season options

Personally, I am on the keep Brees and Payton train. Ride out this season, let our young talent continue to grow on defense, spend some early picks on the Oline in the draft. Brees with time doesn't need elite receivers, pass and run blocking is our biggest problem. clock management and strong offensive performance has been MIA for 2 years. That makes your defensive unit better and gives them more opportunities to apply pressure. Even the most talented D in the league hung a loss up yesterday because their offense couldn't get anything going in the Seattle game.
BUT, let's say there is an offer made for CSP that is too lucrative a deal for the FO to pass up. Who do you go for? 2 guys, Sean McDermott or Matt Patricia are the only coordinators in the league that I would want to kick the tires on. Neither of them have extensive HC experience and would be hard to leave the organization they are currently flourishing in to jump on board a Paytonless saints team. To me this is all the more reason you have to keep CSP in house. There is no better option in football. Thoughts?

from Snopes.com
Though the narrative has been that Brees does not need elite receivers, this season has proven that to be false

I get what you're saying.
Let's say we got a first round pick for SP. (Gruden got what, 2 firsts and a 2nd---and it was before he was a superbowl winner).
You think you could recruit a big name - Dungy, Cowher, Gruden, etc if they had 2 picks in the top 10 of the draft?

I just find it hard to believe that those great coaches (Dungy Cowher etc) would have jobs already if they wanted back in. The talent pool to choose from is very shallow when it comes to coaching options.

I would be interested also to see Brees # under pressure vs having time in the pocket. The line from snopes.com doesn't really prove much

I agree. I don't think any of those coaches would want New Orleans even if they did want back in. What does the Saints have to offer a big time coach? We're a small market, we have no talent, we have no history, and Brees is in his twilight. If we got a new coach, it would be an up and comer. It worked before, but it's always a gamble.
