what really worries me

is that in every game we've played we have eased off the throttle.
yep, we had big leads. yep, it's classy not to run up the score.
But, real game time reps when the other team is trying to stop you are precious. NONE of the teams we let up on ever quit playing football.
Now, it's another issue if your first string is in and you are already pounding the crap out of a weak opponent. in that case you should be letting the 2d string get valuable reps.
I understand that Les does just what he needs to do to win. I can't help wonder - does our team get trained to go limp at the end of the game?
I remember a Head Ball Coach quote from the days he used to run it up while at Florida. he wanted those reps for his team, and pointed out, quite correctly, that it was the other team's job to stop you.
that's my 10 cents worth.

If there's a need to stay on the throttle and play catch up, then we'll do just that. It might suck when we're winning and a team gets to catch up a little before it's over, but when it really is necessary it'll happen.

LSU's outscored its opponents 49-0 in the first quarter and has been outscored in the second, 20-16. Not really germane to your point but I thought that was interesting.

Your title and your thoughts suck. Admins, please whack this.

So the victory formation worries you? Got it.

What games have you been watching this year that makes you really believe we can just turn it on and play catch up when really needed?

I'll give you 9 cents back.
Our starters have played in every game into the fourth

Les felt victory was achieved. Lots of non starters played on D. he said they need the reps, but the good thing is the 2nd string is coming.
So he gave the back ups reps. what else did you want? They gave up 8 points.

This.
I don't what the OP is talking about. It was 7-3 at half vs. Syracuse and 17-14 at half vs. eastern Michigan. There was no throttle to ease off.

We've given up the following points:
19
21
24
22
That's high even with garbage points or teams trying to come back.
Offense will have to be able help to close out games.

The second string guys played a lot. Most of Eastern Michigans yards came when backup linebackers and lineman were in.

I hear this constantly.
But "running up the score" connotes an intent to intentionally embarrass an opponent. Examples may be double reverses, flea-flickers, etc. very late in an out-of-reach game.
But having your backup offense running a vanilla offense is nowhere close to "running up the score." Hell, our backups want game reps too, and if there are injuries, we'll need those guys to step up. Best to let them run our offense.
So I'm just not really getting how classy it is to essentially quit playing. I'd also argue that taking a knee is actually showing pity and is more insulting to the opponent than running off tackle.

The federal deficit.
The state budget crisis.
Starvation in the 3rd world.

I don't think we've seen everything this team has or is capable of.

quote:Key started, and I don't think it is uncommon at all, as a matter of fact I think it is standard to see all the other guys on early snaps. It is not like we are seeing guys that have not already got quite a few snaps. That would be like saying we saw Herron and Gilmore in on the third series and it is a surprise.

The only exception in your list is Alexander.
