re: How would an NFL team in London even work?

Not only would it work, but it would be easy for it to work. There are countless poker chips for the NFL to rearrange for the sake of teams who travel more than others.
Monday games, Thursday games, bye weeks, and consecutive road games are all ways to assuage these concerns. Every NFL schedule is made with travel concerns in mind, and each year the NFL makes more than 250 possible schedules and picks the best one. This isn't nearly the problem that talking points people make it out to be.
The only real problem involves money and international lines.

Under current UK rules, athletes aren't just taxed on the income earned while playing in the UK. The UK also gets a cut of the athletes' world wide income (endorsements) at a tax rate that reaches 50%.
Perhaps there is a special case for athletes, but I believe you can be taxed under what they consider a remittance basis:
quote:
If an individual elects to be taxed on the remittance basis, they will be subject to UK tax on:
UK source income and the proceeds from gains on assets situated in the UK; and
non-UK source income and the proceeds from gains on assets situated outside the UK only to the extent that the income or proceeds are remitted to or used in the UK.
The remittance rules are fairly complex, but in simple terms income or gains are remitted to the UK when the funds are transferred into the UK or used to pay for goods or services in the UK.
It is necessary to elect for the remittance basis to apply. This election must be made on an annual basis on the individual’s UK tax return.

Germany loved football, from what I understand a huge portion of the people that go to the London games are Americans who live in Europe.
This.
It would be 1 continent of NFL fans supporting the team. German , British, American expats or soldiers of the away team,etc......
"The EU Crusaders "?
Just doesn't seem impossible.

Yep... I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath when the Dolphins and Giants played the first ever NFL regular season game at Wembley stadium. I didn't know at the time I'd be watching the Worst team in the NFL (Dolphins) vs the eventual super bowl champs but the game was pretty meh. Granted I am a Falcons fan, but yea, it wasn't that fun. The atmosphere was piss poor because people didn't know when/what to cheer for. The base actually chartered about 200 people to and from the game to give us the "NFL" experience. The pre-game festivities were more entertaining than the game itself.
The field conditions were shitty too. They weren't prepared to have several 300+ pound men with deep cleats tearing up a futbol pitch. It wasn't made for that.
So if they want to have a team in London, then the team in London needs to be prepared to play at 8 PM at night for 1 O'clock games, or 1/2 AM for the night games. Then it would be fair. The jet lag is absolutely ferocious going there.

4home-4away-4home-4away with a bye week somewhere in there.
Something like that I would imagine.

Mexico City would literally kill to have an NFL team.
yes, instead of Player X suspended for pot, we'll have Player X had his head chopped off for talking shite to his dealer.

I watched a NFL game in Europe years ago.
What I remember most was that extra points & Field Goals got some of the loudest cheers during the game
Even as loud or louder than the Touchdowns.
Maybe they understand the game better today?

Something tells me they'll figure it out soon enough, but perhaps I'm giving Europeans too much credit.

Would love to see it happen, guess I'm in the minority. Travel concerns wouldn't be an issue considering they would et all the special treatment they needed.

There really isnt much a travel time difference between East Coast teams going to London or Seattle, yet I dont hear anyone bitching about why we have an NFL team in Seattle.
This would be an excellent argument except for the minor detail that not all NFL teams play on the east coast. What about when San Fran or Seattle has to go to London?

According to an article on NFL.com, the goal is a team in London by 2022.
They have been doing three games a year in London for a few years and will probably increase that four games in 2016.
Germany and Mexico are probably the next countries to host regular season games. The biggest issue in Germany is TV, and the biggest issue in Mexico is the quality of the stadiums.
They are considering moving the Pro Bowl to Brazil to help introduce the game down there.
They are also looking at Canada and China.

I wake up to College Gameday and watch college football all day/all night until the last game is over and then watch College Football Final. I kind of follow what happens in the NFL, less and less each year. Yaeh, I'm just one fan but I'm sure there are more out there like me. The NFL is just turning me off

The team would own their own Concorde, obviously. There's gotta be one sitting in an Air France hangar somewhere that they can get on the cheap

Overnight flight 1st class. That would be so tough, not really. It's probably going to happen soon enough. Move the Dolphins to another division and take over a shite franchise and put them with Pats, Jets, and Bills. I think 2 week rotation home and away.
