Asking for trouble right. Just saw that there are dozens of yolo boarders on the miss river. Seems really crazy to me.

Agree, I paddleboard but would never do it in the Mississippi River.

Big River Regional race from downtown to L'Auberge.
River traffic is closed for this.

They closed down river traffic for a paddle board race?

It's an organized event with safety boats and river traffic closed. I've done plenty of kayak events/races in the mississippi River. It's not bad at all. Very scenic outisde of what you see when crossing the Bridges around BR.

Do they paddle upstream or downstream?
Posted on 8/29/15 at 10:57 am to roadGator
Might as well ditch the paddle.

no kidding, nothing more than a rudder with that current.

Downstream. It's a great event--one of my favorite of the year.

There is picture on FB with about 50 paddle boarders right next to a tug pushing 3 barges. Traffic doesnt seem closed

Yea, I am a Marnie Surveyor/inspector. Maybe vessel traffic is down, but I can assure you not barges. Do you know how much money the state would lose just by shutting down the river for a day...or even a half a day??
They only shut down for emergencies and spills...that it!

Serious question....if you fall in the MS River with a life jacket on, is that enough to save you from drowning? The currents and whirlpools are wicked.

a paddle boarder died just last week paddle boarding a strong current river in oregon
