Burger King has proposed to McDonald’s that the two fast-food chains come together to make “The McWhopper.”
In a full-page advertisement published Wednesday in the Chicago Tribune and The New York Times, Miami-based Burger King says the two rivals should call a one-day ceasefire in the “burger wars” to make a sandwich that combines elements of the Big Mac and the Whopper, the two chains’ signature burgers.
Burger King says the McWhopper would be sold for one day at a pop-up store in Atlanta and sales would benefit Peace One Day, a non-profit organization campaigning to raise awareness of the United Nations-recognized Peace Day of Sept. 21.

"We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference," read a post on McDonald's Facebook signed by McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook.
But Easterbrook chided Burger King for using the language of battle to describe their competition, saying it paled compared to the "real pain and suffering of war."
"A simple phone call will do next time," read a testy postscript.

Big macs suck. BUT they inspired the Pig Mac, and the Pig Mac is delicious.

I think BK knew McD's would decline and assumed the decline would make McD's look badly.
Wouldn't eat either nor a combined version, myself, but the story is interesting.

Is this the thread where we all pretend that we've never eaten fast food before?

Doesn't burger king already have a big mac clone on their menu?

Uhhh...sorry BK, but there is no burger war. Never really was one. Y'all were and still are wannabes, johnny come latelys. This is probably the first day in 30 years that McD's gave BK a minute of their time, and that's only because BK came knocking on their door begging for attention.
The idea that BK is on the same level as McD's, as they portray in the video, is laughable.
BK US Revenue (2012): $1.97 billion
McD's US Revenue (2012): $27.5 billion
BK Worldwide Locations: 13,000
McD's Worldwide Locations:35,000
BK # of employees: 34,248 (FY 2011)
McD's # of employees: 420,000 (2014)
When a small competitor comes yapping, it's best to ignore them. All they want is attention from the big dog, so they can make themselves feel relevant. It's always a loosing situation for the big dog if things get out of hand, because the big dog will always look like the bully in the eyes of the customer.

I haven't had a Big Mac or a Whopper in years but now I'm craving both, damn it.
