Chavis had a defensive philosophy that worked very well for LSU for many years, including the best defense LSU assembled in the last half century. He believed in containing the QB and making him beat you with his arm. Now, we're apparantly going to pin our ears back. That's legitamate. But understand that it opens us up to attacks that we have gotten used to being invulnerable to. We'll see more draws, traps, and QB scrambles than we're used to.

Bro

LSU never, NEVER got pressure on the QB with a 4-man rush.

I think that's what most are looking forward to. Being able to create with just 4 and dropping 7. Don't care how good the offense is, the defense has the advantage if it can create pressure with just 4.

We had trouble getting to the Qb even with 5 or 6 rushing. It was hugely frustrating because Qbs never took punishment and the defense stayed on the field too long.

I see what you mean, wiseguy. But LSU has been almost invulnerable to screens (please don't post the Yeldon gif). Our linemen usually read it and effectively pursue. That, for example, could be a thing of the past.

I'm just saying that every strategy has strengths AND weaknesses. The key is to mix it up. Also, this myth that has developed that Chavis was a bad coach is BS. a bad recruiter? Hell yeah, but he was an excellent coach.
