Tiger won a major, at one of the toughest courses in recent golf history by 15 stokes > than anything Spieth has done this year

no shite, I love the Fedex Cup it's the most Americanized way to play golf. the players enjoy it too
Posted on 8/16/15 at 6:37 pm to texastiger38
I don't think the field was quite the same.

Yea. $10 Million and no one gives a shite.
The playoffs are awesome. Fans love those tournaments and the players want to win them. No question.
And it's the best of the best on some very good courses.

Rory's dominance at majors is much more Tiger-esque than Spieth (although still not close to Tiger).

that course they played in Colorado last year (cherry creek?) was awesome

No one else was even under par
He was -12. You can make any argument you want, but that was the most dominating performance in the history of golf.

Agree, Spieth is a Grinder, just hangs around the lead a lot.
Rory is very boom or bust.

Yep. He's won 2 majors by 8 strokes. Another major he had a 6-stroke lead going into Sunday and won.
When he plays his best, he really can run away from the field.

Young Speith is a lot more like Jack in that way.

I've heard the Hogan comparison for his game thrown out a few times, and that's where I fall.

Bobby Jones really doesn't get enough credit for that 1930 year:
- For the British Amateur, Jones had to win 8 consecutive 18-hole match-play contests. Then, he had to play a 36 hole match-play final. He won it 7 and 6.
- Jones then had to win the British Open the week after playing nine matches in the British Amateur.
- He won the U.S. Amateur with two stroke-play qualifying rounds, two 18 hole match-play contests, and three 36 hole match-play contests. He won the finals match 8 and 7.
- To win the U.S. Open, Jones needed to two-putt from 40 feet. Instead, he holed out.
Other interesting tidbits:
In total, Jones won 10 of the last 15 majors he played in (from 1926 to 1930).
Jones held a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and a B.A. in English Literature from Harvard. After three semesters at Emory Law School, he passed the bar exam.
I could be wrong about this, but I also think Bobby Jones is the only individual to receive two separate ticker-tape parades down Broadway.
Just a plug for a pretty amazing human being.

Wasn't saying people do, but how many tournaments you win in a year absolutely matters and has an effect on your ranking. Tiger won 9 tournaments in 2000. Was ridiculous.

Well Spieth this year he had the lowest total score under par in all 4 majors ever, even lower than Tiger in 2000. He was unbelievable. Spieth's year this year was the greatest year in golf history. No question.

Jordan Spieth 0 SEC Championships

How many SEC West titles tho?

He's got Jack form going right now.
Didn't win, but came in 2nd. GOAT-like

Well that is a laughable statement.
3 other golfers actually won 3 majors in a year
Hell Hogan won 18 times in a season, with 11 straight wins
Tiger won 9 times in 2000, with three major wins, by a combined 20 strokes

Spieth being 54 under for all the majors and the next closes being in the 30s doesn't count?

I love Spieth, and I think he's currently my favorite player in the sport, but no.
Tiger's 2000 is just unreal - had Spieth played a course like 2000 Pebble, he wouldn't have broken that record.
Hogan's 1953 is, in my view, the greatest year any player has ever had in the sport...won five of six tournaments he entered, including the three majors in which he played. Had he been able to play in the PGA, there is little doubt that he would have won given his form that summer. Considering his car accident and his physical struggles, it really puts that year in a level of its own.
