I'm hovering just below 160. Hence the desire to gain weight.

I thought, "man, this guy is on to something. I doubt my wife will go for it, but still..."
Use free weights to gain muscle.
A lb of muscle is way more dense than a pound of fat, obviously.
You will see a difference on the scale, but it will take 6-9 months in my experience.

If I had to guess, I'd range it anywhere from 2,000-2,500 on a given day
It's good to know as much as you can before you really start. You never know but you may only be taking in 1800 a day. If you were to jump all the way to 2900, you'll get burnt out the first week. Bump it 500 calories from that week's average, see the progress after about 2 weeks, then adjust from there.

I used to be your exact height and weight. I had to change my game up. Now, I look a lot better.

I don't use machines. Only free weights and body weight movements. And I figured it would take a long time to truly see results, but I'm looking for something sustainable, not a "quick fix", so I'm ok with that.

What carbs and fats are you eating?
Posted on 8/11/15 at 9:40 am to AbitaFan08
Not all calories/macros are created equally.

Lots of vegetables, whole wheat rice and whole wheat pasta. Try to avoid breads but will usually have a PB sandwich on whole wheat bread as a snack. And milk.

Dude, I eat 4 double whoppers every day with chicken fries and two ice cream cones and I'm still at 9% body fat.
FFFFFFUUUUUUAAAAAAARRRRRRKKKKKK!

Elaborate please (not disagreeing or calling you out, genuinely asking).

But what fats? Lean ground beef? Avocados? Nuts? Cottage cheese?
Posted on 8/11/15 at 9:44 am to Lester Earl
When did I say that. As far as weight loss is concerned, a calorie is a calorie. It's just a unit of measure

My bad - only listed carbs.
Lots of chicken, ground turkey, pork, avocados, and almonds/cashews.
