Question about teen daughter keeping computer in her room at night

Our daughter is a freshman this fall and is only 14. The girls just got issued school laptops for them to be responsible for. Our daughter is saying we are the only parents that ask her to bring it downstairs before bed every night. We don't allow them to keep their cell phones in their rooms at night and don't think this should be any different. Every once in a while we'll let them make an exception and sleep with it if they have a sleep over or something like that. Do parent's really let their kids sleep with computers in their room? She is saying all the other girls get to sleep with theirs in their rooms. I'd like some opinions from other parents.

Who cares what other parents do? Other people are dumb as hell.

Only let my god daughters do it because the home network was protected like a corporate network and they could be monitored from another pc
Eta: the issue wasn't a trust thing on their side, it had more to do with other kids that the family didn't know well.

If you let her keep her computer in her room she will become a whore. You don't want that, do you?

Yea. I am going to bet you are one of the few that don't allow it.

A 14 year old girl was naked in her room and using FaceTime on her laptop and talking to an older boy that I know. Depends on how much you trust your daughter.

You have a right to think out of the box on this. We raised our two kids in a different environment. You go with your gut and error on the side of caution. Trust has to be earned not given. Good Luck.

My 17-year-old daughter has all her gadgets in her room, and it doesn't do any harm at all. I think OP is being a bit--rigid? excessive?--in setting this rule for his kid.

You are telling your daughter that you don't trust her. Has she given you a reason not to trust her?

We let outs keep it in her room. Never had an issue, but she is a great kid. Had a big talk about trust Of course , we can see all of her text messages and this played a role in the decision making process.

I'm not trying to tell you how to raise your daughter, but 14 and going into HS. It's time to let your daughter grow up. Don't shelter her do death because It will backfire.

But the OP is not even giving her a chance to earn it.
