Chevrolet Colorado diesel engine pricing released

$3,730 dollar premium for this little 4 banger. 2.8L Duramax. 181 hp and 369 lb. ft torque. Only raises towing capacity by 700 lbs. The big question is gas mileage which hasn't been released yet. What say the OB. Worth the extra?
(side note - I think gmc is purposefully keeping production lower than demand to keep their profit margin up on these trucks. You can't hardly find them anywhere.)

So you buy a $30k truck, and are supposed to pay 12.5% of the vehicle's cost for a different engine that costs 4x as much to keep running? Something tells me they aren't trying to sell these, and it's either a gimmick or has something to do with the EPA mandates
You can also get an I-4 with 193/184 or a V6 with 305/270 without paying anything extra on top of your trim package

Why would anyone want a truck that size in a diesel? The premium price seems to make it not worth it.

$3700 more expensive, $1 higher per gallon fuel cost, double the maintenance cost just 700 lbs extra towing capacity? Noooope

They will sell them though, but I don't expect to see near as many on the road as a Tacoma or anything
People have been asking for a light duty diesel truck for a long time. Let's see if those people put up or shut up

I'd bet they go over like the Quadrasteer trucks. Honestly, barely anyone drives a Colorado in the first place. Majority of their buyers just buy work trucks. I'm looking at three NAPA ones right now.
I think they could get away with $1000-1500, but $3800 is out of the question. You can just get a bigger, more comfortable, more powerful 1500 instead

Diesel prices are comparable to gas right now, so this is just flat out wrong.

I would expect because of the potential for 35-38mpg truck that can actually tow something efficiently. Towing a trailer or most boats I wouldn't see why you would not see over 20mpg
I think there will be some growing pains for Chevy to go thru kind of like Dodge is having to go thru but there will be a market for this type of truck.

Around me, diesel is about 10 cents more expensive than premium, so significantly more than 87

I bought diesel this morning at $2.53/gallon

Right now yes, but over the past 5-8 years, has that not been the case?

Untrue. Most places I've seen lately are only 10 cents higher, in some places, diesel is less than gas right now.

As someone considering a ram diesel or one of these what exactly cost more to maintain?
I know you have to use the urea stuff as an additive, but what are oil change intervals? Does it cost more? What else? I understand if the turbo/supercharger breaks that can be expensive.

Why does anyone think the diesel option would mean a significant increase towing capacity? That's more a limitation of the chassis, drivetrain, and tires. Probably has less payload capacity since the diesel weighs more.

Filters, urea, fuel conditioners, and that particular truck has a 10k mile OCI for a 10qt oil sump full of full synthetic oil.
