I like how we were a piece or two away from being a legit contender like 2 years ago. So we went out and got rid of our entire fricking team to "be good in 2017"

This trade would not be in line with that thinking.

Well, it goes both ways. Wood would have probably helped us more for 2017. Now we will have to rely on younger unproven arms.
But Olivera helps out bats for 2017.
This is all premature discussion, because I expect us to be active this offseason so who knows what we will look like next season.

A few news and notes items.
Ryan Kelly, Jake Brigham and Matt Marksberry have been called up to replace Avilan, Johnson and Wood on the roster.
Williams Perez will start Saturday.
Braves hoping to have Olivera on big league roster by around August 10.
Bill Shanks, who is a real dumbass, but seemingly has some good contacts in the FO seems pretty sure Maybin is getting traded in the next 24 hours.
Says if Julio is traded Detwiler likely takes his spot in rotation and then maybe Jenkins or ManBan in September.

I'll be praying for our fan base

quote:for who? they have pitchers on the market this offseason but hitters are rare... outside of Freeman and Simmons who really do the Braves have as far as hitters? Go for Upton, Chris Davis, Ian Desmond, Howie Kendrick, Dexter Fowler, Alex Rios, Matt weiters, Colby Rasmus, Austin Jackson, David Freese, Gerardo Parra, Raja Davis, Stephen Drew, Juan Uribe, Ben Zorbist, Chris Young, Gordon Beckham, Dan Uggla , Franklin Gutierrez, Everth Cabera, Roger Cedano....... it is a weak FA class of hitters....

We won't be very active in free agency, we hardly ever are. But have the peices in the minors to trade for what is needed.

We should have a ton of extra money this offseason. No more paying Uggs and the Upton bros are already off the books.

I think that is the point I was trying to make. None of us know what this team will look like next year. I don't know who they go out and get. I'm not a damn psychic But we should have money to pay some guys if we can acquire via FA or trade.
Posted on 7/30/15 at 3:17 pm to RollDatRoll
I wouldn't want the Braves spending money on that FA class of offensive players if I was a Braves fan. almost everyone is 31+ with their best years behind them.

They'll go after FA pitching, I imagine. Which is kind of funny to say after trading away Wood.
They'll keep trading pitching for hitting and keep drafting and trading for young arms when they're available.
All of this over the next two off seasons and deadlines. They won't try to get everything done at once.

Bring Price back south close to home

Updated look at the payroll situation. Obviously very fluid. Roughly $50M to spend this winter - minimums and Shelby's first arbitration salary.

Thanks, Vol.
Now all Hart has to do is find some way to dump CJ's contract. Come on John!

Pierzynski, Gomes, Aardsma, Detwiler, Frasor and Outman are now the only players in the organization not under team control when the new stadium opens.
