Radio host Colin Cowherd no longer will appear on ESPN following comments he made about baseball players from the Dominican Republic one day earlier, the company said in a statement Friday.
"Colin Cowherd's comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees," ESPN said in a statement. "Colin will no longer appear on ESPN."
Cowherd had said Thursday that he didn't believe baseball was complex, saying a third of the sport was from the Dominican Republic, which had "not been known, in my lifetime, as having, you know, world-class academic abilities.''
Major League Baseball on Friday said Cowherd owes Dominican players an apology for the remarks, and the MLB Players Association also condemned his remarks.
In a statement, MLB said it "condemns the remarks made by Colin Cowherd, which were inappropriate, offensive and completely inconsistent with the values of our game" and that he "owes our players of Dominican origin, and Dominican people generally, an apology."
On Friday, Cowherd addressed his remarks from Thursday.
"I could've made the point without using one country, and there's all sorts of smart people from the Dominican Republic," Cowherd said during The Herd on Friday. "I could've said a third of baseball's talent is being furnished from countries with economic hardships, therefore educational hurdles. For the record, I used the Dominican Republic because they've furnished baseball with so many great players."
Cowherd, who has been with ESPN for 12 years, announced earlier this week that he's leaving the company for another business opportunity.

Wow
Didn't see this coming.

He's leaving anyway. I don't think they said they fired him either, he just won't be on air anymore.

Why couldn't he have made this statement 10 years ago

I don't even like him but that's so fricking lame.

No it's not. Why would they try to protect someone who's leaving anyway?

Will ESPN still call that show "In the Herd"

I like that he didn't really apologize. He backed down a little to save his career, but he didn't completely bend over to the PC police

I don't see a problem with that. You don't see anyone wanting to study abroad at the University of Potato.

They were just looking for a reason to get him off the air.
He's said much "worse" things.

Like the time he said one of the best things about Oregon was that it's white.

Smart business move. Tarnish and minimize his brand on the way out.
(His brand sucks though)

I feel like someone gets "kicked" off air every few weeks. At this rate, we'll kick them all off faster than they can hire them. Should make for quiet rides in the car during the morning commute.

exactly!!! Of all the things he's said, this gets him kicked off the air!!

I heard his whole segment and I can't believe that he is getting "kicked off" for this (yes, I know he is leaving anyway).
You can't say anything anymore without someone being offended.

Is they are going to fire him over this, then there is a lot more people that need to be fired over racist remarks.
Stephen A Smith for starters.
