This theatre shooting is too close to home and it serves to make the sick world we live in today all the more real. Has me thinking of getting one myself. It's honestly the only way I'll feel safe and have peace of mind when taking my family out in public.

Obviously me carrying won't stop something from happening but I could potentially save lives, including mine and my family's.

I'm honestly moved to tears watching all the coverage. Thank God nobody I know/love were there but I know at least one poster here lost someone he knows and I'm sure others are in the same boat. Prayers go out to them.

What's the OT's thoughts?

Yes, I have one. Without regular practice/training, carrying a firearm won't do you much good.

Lafayette - the whole shooting was probably over in less than ten seconds. Shooter probably pulled out a pistol and fired 10-15 shots rapidly. How long would it most people to realize what was going on, identity the shooter, then react accordingly?

Yeh. He cares too much about his family's safety.

I honestly feel sorry for people with this mentality.

Are you prepared to take extensive tactical training? If not, then you could be just as likely to freeze up in a bad situation. Worse, you could just respond by wildly shooting back and hitting bystanders.

While these things are horrible, it's best to try and keep a level head. Knee jerk reactions don't help anyone.

Good luck on finding an opening in a concealed class in the next six months. Available classes will probably be booked up by lunch this morning.

I got mine two weeks ago. It was good to go to the range with an instructor and get shooting pointers.

I'd recommend it for that reason alone. Also, it just generally makes transporting guns easier.

Yes, and we don't all have that mentality.

Yep, and if you are prepared to accept the responsibility that comes with it, you should get one as well.

That said, based on what I've heard, I don't think it would have done you much good in the shooting last night. That isn't to say there aren't still very very good reasons to have one...just that you can't fool yourself into thinking it creates some kind of magical protection from harm.

No, but events like yesterday and the Charleston church shooting have me earnestly looking for some classes to get one
