We had similar oak cabinets we kept and painted a creamish color. The counter is brown, the the floor is a light beige, the walls are a sky blue and the ceiling is a few shades lighter on same paint sample strip (so basically white with shade of wall color blue).
We just put in an island with some spare parts. The cabinets are a darker mahogany with a white counter. You can't change your island counter, but we like the contrast from the wall cabinets so I'd second the suggestion to darken the island cabinets to contrast the wall cabinets.
