I would think the commute lengths in BR are above the national average, but haven't seen any hard data. In which case, BR would score better if traffic is measured in terms of commute time per mile driven.

Coming back from Houston this past weekend, it was completely stopped on 10 right before Lobdell. One of my fellow passengers remarked it was the 3rd week in a row they'd made the drive back from Lafayette and it been completely stopped at the bridge.
This town's traffic is an embarrassment.

If schools were better people wouldn't have to live outside of EBR. If there were neighborhood schools there would be less cross town traffic.

I get less frustrated driving in NYC than I do driving in Baton Rouge.

Exactly, people choose to sit in traffic. A lot of Baton Rouge's traffic problems are due to the choices its citizens make regarding where they work, live, send there kids to school, among other things. I personally chose to live in an area close to potential jobs, close to potential schools, and close to my friends and places I like to go. Therefore, I rarely sit in traffic in Baton Rouge. Maybe once or twice a month. I almost never get on the interstate. I only cross airline to go to the inlaws.

However, I do not disagree that the infrastructure in Baton Rouge is adequate. There should be more connectivity but if people didn't live in CCL and send there kids to Catholic High/SJA or live between perkins/highland and send their kids to episcopal or other similar scenarios some of our traffic problems would not exist.
I also agree that we should have neighborhood schools. People should also shop at neighborhood grocery stores instead of driving across town to whole foods.

well there you have it folks. Who knew it was as simple as living next to work, next to your kids school, and the places you socialize? Thanks Wasp for solving this riddle.

I havent solved anything, I am merely pointing out that your life is a product of your choices. I have found a great medium towards the things I listed but prioritizing certain areas like education/crime/etc. will have negative outcomes in other areas like traffic for example or proximity to a mall/etc.

They have no "release valve" for traffic. One artery gets blocked and the whole city is gridlocked.

yet another profundity. You should hold court in the town square. I'd assume its easy to align work/school/recreational locations when one is an enlightened philosopher such as yourself. But what should the individual do who cannot find employment or a good school for his/her kids in close proximity to each other?

I live in kenilworth. This is baton rouges problem and is a reason for its traffic woes. It should not matter whether kenilworths residents want it or not.

The whole Highland/burbank corridor is a mess. There should be a way to get from Highland to Burbank other than a couple major arteries.

Cutting through neighborhoods is not the solution. Expanding college and Essen are better solutions. Also Staring is the connector not the Kenilworth parkway.
Do you think highland rd will ever be 4 lanes? It would help traffic but it will NEVER happen.

I work from home. I plan my errands for 9-10:30 or maybe 1-2:30. Rarely any traffic then. Any other time of day before 6:30 generally sucks.
