Went there for my honeymoon - got one of the "executive suites" with the rooftop pool. Great times were had.

LINK went here a few years back. Trip included 2 free excursions for just sitting down, letting them try to sell you a time-share and sayin no. We went jet skiing, snorkeling and would have zip-lined but the fricking bus driver drove around for 2 hours until we realized the fricker was lost. Got off at a sister resort, got shitfaced & took a shuttle back. The food was actually really good. The rooms were stocked with alcohol & the poolside bartenders made the drinks any way you wanted

Playa Mujeres, Excellence
Went there with 3 other couples...had a blast! Tip the middle bartender 40 bucks on the first day. Food was great - there are all sorts of different cuisines. No excursions necessary for us...just ate and drinks all day at the pool and lazy river.

As this board tends to be fickle, some really put down on all-inclusives. I've been to an excellence resort, Sandals, and going to Mexico in July (Valentin Imperial Maya).
They are enjoyable vacations if you like relaxing on the beach/pool and drinking a lot. If you want to explore, they're aren't the best and can be more expensive.

Don't like them. When I have gone down there, I have stayed at all inclusive once and non all inclusive twice.
The first time was all inclusive. I ate breakfast there and had about two drinks over 3 days and nights. I ate out every meal (except breakfast) and did my drinking at bars and clubs. About the only thing I did at the resort was sleep. Days were spent doing activities and nights eating out, clubbing, bar hopping.

That said, I stayed at Now Sapphire in Puerto Morales in December and it was great.
Stayed here recently. We wanted to do just a quick Thursday-Sunday trip.
I'm not a big all-inclusive fan, but I just wanted to sit on my arse this trip. This was a good spot, and the food was pretty good for an all inclusive. Nice set up.
Ridiculously hot women walking around at times.

Just got back from RIU Palace in Cabo. Awesome resort, drinks, and food. Snorkeling was worth it and if the weather had been better we would have gone fishing. You can do so pretty cheap. I hear most RIU properties are great

I think this sums it up. Of course, where I live, I can relax on the beach by basically walking out the front door and same goes for the pool. When I go down to Mexico, I want daytime activities and to party my balls off all night, then come home exhausted, but knowing good times were had and time was maximized.

I've stayed there twice and planning to go back with a group later this year. I've also been and stayed at places that aren't all inclusive and I prefer the former. You aren't a prisoner there and can get out as much or as little as you desire. Like all resorts there is a concierge who can help you plan excursions (for some reason I recall at least two at excellence). the food is really good. Hit up the hibachi one night

Looking at going to Riu Palace in Cabo in Sept. Any advice in terms of restaurants, room requests, bartenders to tip, daytime activities nearby, etc.?

We are hitting the Riu Pacifico Palace in July with two other couples. Really looking forward to it as I've not been to the west coast of Mexico.

I stayed at the Riu Santa Fe in Cabo. It was on a bachelor party. It's on the same property as the Palace. The food was dreadful.

Not a fan of all inclusives but had a better than expected time last summer at Hyatt Zilara in Cancun. All adults, food was decent(Asian restaurant was quite good, lots of fresh fruit at breakfast) . Small but nice gym, yoga on the beach with a good instructor. Lovely pool area. If you're a wine drinker stop and buy some on the way from the airport. Was only there b/c my BF at the time wanted to but whole experience was pretty good. It's more upscale and all adult, big difference from Riu et al

Ill be going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in a couple of months. What excursions did yall do?

I've got a trip to Excellence Cancun in a few weeks. Have friends that go every year to Excellence properties and they rave about it. Have another friend that's been to Le Blanc several times. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

We did our honeymoon at the Now Jade Riviera Maya a few years ago and it was awesome. Can't wait to go back down there again. We did a week long trip and did excursions off of the premises probably 3 of those 7 days, most were trips into Cancun. I personally don't think I'll ever stay in Cancun again (did it once), I much prefer the more laidback Riviera Maya and taking trips into the city to do things.

I have been to #7 and #14 on this list and they were great. Way better than a cruise IMO. The food there was top notch as were the drinks. They were a little more than some of the other place but I think it is well worth it.
You can still go out and explore, but it nice to come back to a place that you don't have to worry about the food/drinks.
