Softball question: why square to bunt and pull back to swing away

Bell up with 17 hrs. She does that stupid square around to bunt (obviously she's not bunting) and then grounds out to 2nd. With 17 hrs and clearly she has power, why not get in a solid stance and be ready to hit? Am I the only one that thinks some of these girls need to stop the unnecessary movement and just hit the ball?

Has she done that all year? And hit 17hrs by doing it?

Yes. Timing is the answer.

Could she have hit 25 hrs if she went up there and set her stance and got ready for the pitch? It's just a question. I don't see any mlb (the best of the best) players trying to square around and then pull back. I know baseball and softball are different but pitcher has ball, pitcher throws ball, batter sees ball, batter hits ball.

That's your response? Ok, you clearly don't have an answer.

Bc in softball even power hitters bunt for hits. Did you see Jaquish do it in the game today?

Timing and instruction habits bro

I understand power hitters still bunt. I'm just curious as to why a power hitter in an obvious hitting situation wouldn't get in there and focus on hitting. The squaring up seems like a distraction of a batters focus. It changes your stance and also your line of sight because your eye level moves from a lower level to a higher level as the pitcher is delivering the ball.

The way it was explained to me at camp was it teaches the hitter to put two eyes on the pitch. They get their head squared up and it helps maintain that line of sight.

It takes second guessing off their minds while waiting, and allows them to react to the pitch naturally, is what I've heard.

I don't think that's true. Bell was around .500 this entire year and does it every at bat

If this was really effective, why haven't baseball players picked up on it.

Because most softball players can't move 60 ft very fast
