Mechanics of the OT-2007 Ford F150 Ball joints

I need the ball joints replaced on my truck. Two mechanics have called for "upper and lower control arms" to be replaced because the joint itself isn't able to be changed without changing arms. Both mechanics are calling for over $1000 worth of work and that seems crazy.
Can you guys give me advice so I am not getting the screw ball? Do both arms need replacing?
Here is how I figured out it was the ball joints: every other tread on the front tires is being worn unevenly. So when you go around a curve the truck sort of "bounces" as the tread is trying to grip the road.I appreciate any information you guys have. TIA

With bad ball joints, you should also be experiencing nearly constant squeaky noises coming from the front of your truck as your wheels are constant articulating with the road.
ETA: parts and labor on both uppers and lowers should come in around 1k, give or take a hundred or so.

quote:
On OUR trucks models 2004-2008 I was aware that you can ONLY replace the lower ball joint alone with just the joint only. The upper ball joint CANNOT be "pressed/removed" from the Upper Control Arm (UCA), this means you must buy the ENTIRE UCA with ball joint in order to replace the joint.

Metroplex
I haven't heard a squeak but I also don't have the ears to notice that.

The upper ball joints went out on my 1998 at 54k miles.
Same thing back then they are built in to the arm.
Got Moog parts from the parts house and bolted them up. Got an alignment afterwards.
The quote seems high but you are paying retail + markup for the parts plus premium labor.
