However live sports make up their revenue stream and are the reason they can charge every cable or satellite subscriber 5 or however many bucks per month...even the ones like me that don't even watch them.
Try $8-$9 including the SEC network etc;

Revenue wise, he was at best a blip and at worst actually costing them money.
Simmons created content and in no way was he not more profitable than any other personality. Normally I'd stop reading here but since you clearly don't have any facts I'll keep reading.
quote:
Right or wrong and love him or hate him, the notion that ESPN somehow "made a mistake" (as a few on here have implied) is simply not supported by the facts.
If Simmons goes to FS1 or another channel he will instantly bring viewership there and erode ESPN's base.

Considering the really dick way that they handled this, they seem to be exceptionally confident of that.
How is refusing to be a mouthpiece and towing the company line on things you clearly don't believe when you are a content guy being a dick??

They will not lose viewers and they will not lose revenue. That's my sole premise
30 for 30 is the only non live sports show that consistently made it into the top 20 cable show ratings on ESPN. You are a fool if you think Simmons is done and won't go to a competitor and erode ESPN's base. That's my premise.

Simmons was making a ton of money for ESPN and now he's going to go to FS1 and really make ESPN pay by taking their viewership, huh?
You seem to know a lot about economics and business. Where's the link to your blog? I would love to become a reader and educate myself about these things.
You may be a business maven but you need to learn to read a little closer and refute arguments that were actually made. Example: Where did I say Simmons was "done"? I'm a fan of his, for Christ's sake!
Arguing that he was more "profitable" than other personalities? Where did I make that comparison and what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? They're expendable, too! It's the NFL and NBA programming that isn't.
Or is your argument that Simmons is more valuable than the live sports programming, as well? Because that was my actual argument, not that weird ranting perversion that you were "debating".
