So your contention is that 30 for 30 is driving viewers to their sports broadcasts?
Yeah, going to have to see the data on that one.
And Sportscaster has two things going for it: It's cheap and can be played multiple times daily. That's pretty much the point of it.
There are 30 for 30 threads? That's great! But that's not the issue when deciding whether to pay someone 6 million a year.

Favorite Simmons Moment
After Cavs won their 3rd of the last 4 lotteries.

If all you care about are live sports and hate any type of sports personality or commentary then fine. I admire your dedication.
But as far as that sort of thing goes, Simmons and Friends were so much better than almost everyone else at ESPN it wasn't even funny. SVP and Russilo are solid, a couple of the college football guys.
Bayless, Stephen A, Cowherd, Mike and Mike, Michelle Beadle, Kellerman, Marcellus Wiley, Wilbon, Lebatard, Bomani Jones, Jemele Hill. Every single ex NFL player they hire as a football guy. I mean Jesus who wants to watch Wendi Nix ask NFL players cliched questions and received cliched answers for an hour every day? They all cater to the lowest common denominator. It's atrocious. Say what you want about Simmons, but at least he's not unoriginal

I lurk way more than I post, and regardless of your opinion on this certain topic, I feel that someone needs to tell you that you have been the most insufferable fricker (or alter I guess) on this board the past week and how anybody else could think otherwise is beyond me
I hope you stub your toe 5 times this weekend and grow golf ball size hemorrhoids til you decide to add some value on here

ESPN.com/Grantland will suffer the most. This is Simmons money time...nba playoffs/draft/summer blockbuster season/red sox.
In addition, we won't see his Letterman article/podcast that we know would be coming, since Dave is Bill's idol.
maybe simmons makes a surprise visit to the late show.

No, my contention is they drive a higher tax bracket of viewers, and they are able to sell higher end ad time instead of the stuff they sell during Sportscenter.

As long as the admins are allowing alters, I wish they would make them list the prior perma-banned alters in the sig.

great post ESPN really does look more more like CNN/Fox/MSNBC everyday.
Simmons & Grantland, along with SVP and Russilo are more like Daily Show and Colbert Report

Not reading this whole thread but Simmons was okay on tv. Everyone knows how I feel about his writing. I can't say I'm distraught like everyone else. I really don't get his appeal. I liked him at first, but that was shortlived.

Was really hoping for a "Bill Don't Lie" this week too

Fortunately for me, I never said that.
However live sports make up their revenue stream and are the reason they can charge every cable or satellite subscriber 5 or however many bucks per month...even the ones like me that don't even watch them.
Simmons was strictly a prestige buy. Revenue wise, he was at best a blip and at worst actually costing them money.
Right or wrong and love him or hate him, the notion that ESPN somehow "made a mistake" (as a few on here have implied) is simply not supported by the facts. Considering the really dick way that they handled this, they seem to be exceptionally confident of that.
They will not lose viewers and they will not lose revenue. That's my sole premise. I'll leave Simmons' place in sports journalism to the MSB historians.

ESPN will be fine so long as they keep shining lights in front of idiots and pretending sports still matter

@ChrisVernonShow: Simmons asked me to do BS Report 5/6 to talk Grizz. Decided we would do it the next week. 5/7 last episode ever. Story of my career haha

I actually really liked Simmons. He said whatever he wanted and didn't seem to follow a script. I love people like that though.

This. There are only a handful of guys at ESPN with the clout built up to say whatever they want. He was one of em, but I guess he pushed it a little too far.
Get ready for more canned takes from company men.

Two largely irrelevant pieces of the ESPN behemoth. In fact, I'd be shocked if they weren't losing money on both.

It hurts my heart to open my podcast app and see no BS and Bill Don't Lie updates

He trashed Goodell for many of his laughable disciplinary rulings and "investigations" and got himself in a shitload of trouble for that. Saw it mentioned somewhere else that maybe ESPN was afraid the NFL would give them a really bad Monday Night Football schedule if certain ESPN personalities kept trashing the commissioner. I can only assume that meant Simmons.
