To solve the issue, (and I know this is just a pipe dream nowadays) sex-ed ideally would not even be taught in schools but rather at home by the parents. But we all know that's never going to happen.
Thank you for at least acknowledging this. I kind of agree with your rest of your ramblings too, but this part is important. All too often when jackasses talk about stuff like this they say "the parents should blah blah blah". Well the parents aren't doing that so let's figure something else out. Blaming parents isn't a solution it's just bitching.

Well to his point the kids are learning an important lesson here that abstinence would have kept them from getting the clap. The parent part, well that's a wash. If you aren't close enough with your kids to be able to discuss sex in a mature way, then you have bigger issues.
If you believe abstinence keeps you from getting the clap then you must also believe prohibition prevents alcohol abuse and crime. You have to use some common sense and know kids are going to have sex.
My point was not that parents should not talk to their kids it was that he sounded like an idiot. He used ain't in an interview then said it's the parents duty to educate the kids on something that the school provides a class for. He is basically saying out sex education class is not educating the kids so the parents should.

I'm confused, what does the abstinence policy have to do with teenagers not having sex? That's like New Orleans having a no crime policy.

I think the problem here is that we've taken something that should be a parent's responsibility
So the single mother who had her child at 18 because she didn't know any better is supposed to teach her teenage kids about safe sex? No. We need some fricking professionals - no pun intended - to get everyone on the same page and educate using the right info. You don't outsource algebra to the parents, why sex ed? Which one do you use more on a day to day basis?

should start getting birth control as early as middle school as well as be taught the different methods of having sex.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone make this argument.
quote:
By this I mean that kids should be taught about the ramifications of sex both physically and emotionally. They should also be taught about the different methods of birth control in an open and honest manner. And by that I mean they need to be taught that none of the birth control methods are 100% effective at preventing STD's or pregnancy. And along with this they need to be taught that abstinence is the only 100% effective way to avoid pregnancy and/or STD's. In other words, take out all the politics, both left and right, give teens all the information and then let them make a fully informed decision knowing that it's them that will have to live with the consequences of those decisions whatever they may be.
This is pretty much where I think most people who are ok with sex education in schools sit.

I'm not going to read that babbling book of bullshite. A large majority of kids have sex because it feels good. Period. The same reason people get drunk. I don't need a novel on parenting.

Algebra and it's not even close. I hate my life.

And because they have a hormone driven biological imperative to do so.

So you believe that abstinence doesn't keep you from getting the clap? Sure, there are other ways to get STDs other than from sex, but the chances are most likely statistically insignificant.
Perhaps you mean abstinence only education doesn't prevent you from getting the clap? Because that's true.

I apologize almighty grammar god. I forgot to put the word education. Hopefully you somehow survived this grave mistake.

So you don't think a parent should be able to teach their kids one of the most important lessons about life. Hell, why should parents teach their kids anything? Just leave it all to the schools. Guess the concept of a parent actually being responsible for raising their kids is outdated now. Let's just leave it all to the schools.

I'm just here to point out that chlamydia is not the clap. Gonorrhea is the clap.

Sex education starts early, especially if you go to elementary school in Provincetown, Mass.
That’s because the school committee has unanimously adopted a condom distribution policy beginning as early as first grade.
