Did you get this from Matthew Berry?

It's time to have the young guys we have step up and solidify the WR3 and 4 spot.
Such a cliche statement given the fact that none of these guys have done so thus far. There were plenty of opportunities for these guys when Lance Moore was let go, Jimmy getting hurt, Colston declining and Cooks getting hurt. None of them stepped up then.
Jones would be a better receiver than any of these other guys.

If you are not a believer in Seantavius Jones, go on the mother fricking record now. Right now. This dude will be a legit Saint for numerous years. He's legit and your doubts are insulting.

James Jones wouldn't come in here and do a damn thing better than anyone in that second group.
That's not even remotely true.
Jones had 666 ( ) yards receiving and 6 TD's with a rookie QB tossing him the ball. He's sure as hell good enough to be our #3 and I'd feel pretty good with Colston, Cooks, Jones, and Toon being the top 4 receivers.
James Jones is a more accomplished receiver than everyone on that second list...combined.

I would love it just from an experience stand point. Some of you are confusing raw talent/potential for actual production. And there is way more to being a WR than running fast and catching the ball. The ability to comprehend and apply the playbook; the ability to read the hot routes and adjust at the line; knowing savvy vet moves to get separaration; having another vet that drew can trust; For whatever reason, I doubt we land him, but I would def think he could add a little more certainty to the position.

And its not that I dont love Jones and especially colemans potential. I think toon is garbage. But until they have done it on the field, there is a big uncertainty. Its not like I'm rooting against them, but if they haven't made enough strides to make a difference, James Jones would be a quality vet to we could rely on.

It will be funny/tragic if CSP picks him up because then all the "HOW COULD ME NOT DRAFT 1 WR?" crowd will use it as proof CSP knows he f@cked up
Posted on 5/4/15 at 1:19 pm to goatmilker
I think Payton stated that drafting a WR early was on their agenda but the draft didn't play out that way. Anyway, we didnt need to draft a WR unless it was a major stud like Cooper. Our roster is already full of young guys who have great potential. We need a vet.

we need help, but it isnt james jones. he's too old for my liking

You are putting too much stock in past productions as a measurement for future success.
What else is there to go on? There is no evidence to give you any reason to believe that guys like Toon or Morgan will turn it around and succeed other than CSP saying he "likes" them, which I'm sure he would say about any player we have, productive or not.
To be fair, I am highly optimistic about some of these guys. But to say it isn't something we need to address because we have one 1st round guy and then a jumbled bag of old/underdeveloped/low ceiling guys is foolish. This is a team need. None of those guys are blossoming into a Colston replacement.
Posted on 5/4/15 at 1:41 pm to whodatfan
I gotta agree with Chad and whodatfan here that one or two of the young guys will step up(Morgan has real talent and Toon averaged 3 catches a game over the last six games; the other two have shown promise minus Coleman's early drops).
Plus people forget that the third receiver will likely be the sixth option as we have Colston, Cooks, Watson, Hill, and Spiller in front of them.

Past production would have us believe that Goodwin and Bailey would have been big for us last year. Can't rely on really old guys any more than young unproven guys.
And thanfully this year we only signed one old guy at a rotational spot and none to start.
Seriously the biggest question mark is LG by far but people act like we don't even have starting receivers.

Hey one more year of torture at the mountain hideaway should be enough to fix that sh!t real quick!

Exactly. We kept Adrian Arrington around for years, and every one thought he would eventually contribute.
People think just because we keep people around, they are going to be good for some reason. None of these guys have proved shite on the field. I can't believe how irrational some people are.
We needed guys last year, especially after Cooks went down, and NONE of these guys stepped up.

having a savy aging vet like robert meachem didn't prove to help shite either. None of the rookies were given a chance last year really.

FIFY.
dont know why people are counting on him all of a sudden

this is a good point that's overlooked. If Cooks goes down, we are really in trouble.

James Jones last 3 seasons >>> Meachem's. Meachem did diddly poo in SD when we brought him back. Jones was still a good player last year on a bad team.
Put it this way. What is the downside of signing him? The upside has been documented in this thread. I have yet to see a downside. The only stance against it is "we love our UDFAs." Ok, if they are that good, they will beat him out for the WR3 spot. Again, no downside there.

i'm not. i've been banging on him lately. #3, whatever, that's why i made payment earlier about hill not being replaced.

Fans, me included, tend to judge wide receivers based solely on statistics. Obviously i dont know the details of the saints locker room, but I assume youngers guys weren't given a chance because they didn't know the position and playbook well enough. If they were for enough along, they would have gotten more chances. Maybe CSP feels they have this season. But reacquiring Joe Morgan tells me that they know its a need for concern. If it wasnt, I highly doubt Payton wanted anything else to do with Morgan.
