I used pawn in the sense of "not that good" / "not valuable" / "expendable", you know, because a pawn is all of those things.
So boom roasted = pawn?

Randle is a more than serviceable 2 and would be an great #3 option.

Cooper, OBJ, Cruz, and Randle? Lawd
I know. They would be the highest scoring last place team of all time.

First off, why take Cooper when they need defensive help? Second off, they still have INT Manning throwing the ball, so i doubt it means a championship.

That would be such a dumb pick. He's going to be a great player but they need help elsewhere.

They still have Randle and Cruz do they not? Seems like a complete waste. I'm not a Giants fan, but I'm gonna guess #2 WR was not the reason they failed to make the playoffs last year.
exactly

Would be the best
Gmen will crush the Pats......again in the SB

Cooper would be great value hard to pass up. realistically they probably need to improve their O line but Cooper would be hard to argue with value wise.
Jerry Reese drafts 1st rounders based on best talent available. If Cooper is there he will be a Giant. Cooper will not be there though. As a Giant fan, I'd be happy with Amari. We can use our other draft picks to get Defensive. There isn't a defensive player or offensive linemen who will be available at 9 Id take over Coop.

The top teams take the BPA.
I'm personally of the opinion that upgrading a position from good to great is better than upgrading a position from average to good.
Two great wideouts makes you a matchup nightmare. Defensive coordinators aren't scheming around Brandon Scherff, but they'd lose sleep trying to stop Cooper and Beckham. Address your needs later in the draft, take BPA in the first round.
When Jones and White were healthy in Atlanta they were a bad fourth quarter away from reaching the super bowl. That team didn't have a defense or a run game. Two stud receivers can take you a long way with a competent quarterback.
Cooper makes the Giants a better football team than anyone else that would realistically be on the board.

I'll never understand why people hate on a guy in the pros for what college he went to.

Absolutely. STL Rams fans questioned the Aaron Donald selection last year because of our existing DL depth, but in reality that pick was excellent as the Rams DL is now so filthy that opposing offenses have to gameplan around it.
Indirectly, that shored up a bit of weakness in the secondary as well, as opposing QB's don't have the time or pocket to throw down field.

Randle isn't good
Hes good enough to NOT draft a wr. unless Cooper is sitting there........

I guess I should have been more clear. That's on me.
Randle isn't a foundation WR2. He's not a guy you stick in the WR2 slot and say "well that position is covered." I wouldn't want to roll into the season with Randle being my WR2. He just isn't that good. He'll do in a pinch but it's not ideal.
Good news is that Randle won't have to be a WR2 if Cruz returns to his pre-injury level (or close enough). However, we don't know if he will return to that level. He'll turn 29 this season and that was a nasty injury.
The Giants have a tough decision to make.
I don't know enough about OL or defensive players to say whether any should be taken over Cooper; but from what I've seen and read, Cooper is going to be a immediate starter in the NFL with significant upside. Him and ODB can lock down those positions for the foreseeable future. I don't see the issue with taking a stud like Cooper at the 9 spot and working on defense and OL with the remaining picks. Then again, I'm not a draft analyst like so many of the MSB. I'm just a lowly NFL fan.

who knows if Randle gets his attitude right and is even in the NFL three years from now - but with Cruz to pair with Beckham? You'd have to think there's no other similar talent available in a position of more need to take another WR.
For example, the Giants have had trouble keeping Manning upright for a while - that's a bigger big picture deal if you buy into the build from the inside out football philosophy.
Think back a couple of years back to when the Falcons drafted Julio Jones. He's nothing short of spectacular when he's healthy but they ignored other positions of need and with a big contract to Ryan they can't afford to spend free agent money to keep their proven talent or bring in good replacements. It hasn't worked for them IMO.

quote:That's the main question. With a healthy Cruz, there is no need to draft Cooper. However, if Cruz is a shell of his former self or if you have doubts as to his long-term health (he'll turn 29 this season and is coming off a significant injury), the Cooper pick makes sense.

Still debatable IMO. The WR position has been devalued to no small extent.
I'd happily trade a great WR for a great DT for example.
