$1500 is a fair price for an estimate.
Could be that, could be $1,000. They quoted you the high end.
Most vets don't gouge patients/clients.

Most don't, but some vets do. The one I had prior to my current vet was sky high. They charged me over $400 for a simple spay. The tests they ran before the surgery were unnecessary and pricey. One of them was to determine if she was going to have a bad reaction to the anesthesia - even though that same vet did emergency surgery on her when when I found her.
I love my current vet. He is older and has seen it all and can diagnose a lot of problems without all the BS high dollar tests.
