Going to be entering a little friendly competition on sliders in a few weeks and I'm looking to do something out of the ordinary. Any ideas or recipes?

Short ribs, light slaw.
Don't have the recipe on me, but I'll see if I can post it later.

Batter and fry good bacon slices, cut in half. Add to burger.

I made sliders this weekend. Don't overlook the bread as a potential for creativity: you can make tiny onion rolls, or a chive/gruyere roll.
Hmm, I might be tempted to make spicy lamb sliders and use a biscuit cutter to cut rounds out of larger pieces of garlic naan as the buns...make a cilantro chutney, and spread w/a little mango chutney as well.

Meat ball sliders with provolone on a toasted ciabatta slider rolls. Or Italian sausage sliders on the same bread.
Could do a ground lamb gyro type slider.
Fried oyster, shrimp or fried green tomato sliders with crispy bacon or pancetta and some Cousin's creole tomato dressing.
Grilled shrimp sliders with bacon, an avocado slice or spread made from avocado.

Beet Sliders
Saw this on DDD, made a play off of them for NYE this year. Dress them up with goat cheese, a chimichurri, aioli, etc.

I made Bahn Mi sliders with pulled pork a few weeks back. Deliciousness.

When I think sliders, I think pork. Hard to beat a good pork loin and Hawaiian bread combo.

try that basket weave bacon technique that gris (i think) posted recently.
add it to roasted roma tomatoes, caramelized onions, white cheddar cheese, avocado, chipotle aioli, ground beef, sweet sourdough bun (basically babalu's burger)

That'd be good on them if he's doing something with bacon. A crispy slice of pancetta works as well for a slider since they draw up a bit.

Lamb sliders with a nice cucumber-yogurt sauce. They're delicious.

I like this idea. Keep it simple. If you have too much stuff on your slider, it will get complicated after you take a bite.
This recipe looks good.

Wow, that sounds really good.
I'll add crab cake sliders with fried green tomato, pickled vegetabls and remoulade.

I had a delicious roasted butternut squash slider (don't remember all of the specifics, it was awhile back) at Wayfare, and they used a mini pretzel bun:
