Yard size relative to mower type

Ok so I only have .31 of an acre but am really starting to think about getting a riding mower just to save time.
Anyone else do this? It may shave off 20 minutes but if I cut twice a week to keep it neat and tidy that adds up.

that doesn't seem worth it

You must be a busy son of a bitch if you need to expedite mowing time for a .31 acre yard!

for what you'll spend on a riding mower and maintenance, hire someone.

There is a Gravely 34 inch walk behind mower. I would buy it way before I would get a riding mower.

Cost as much as a lawn tractor and almost as much as a cheap zero turn.

This.
I got too much to mow at the camp, I ain't wasting time on my yard at home.

I was expecting this :-). The main reason is when I am home I want to spend time with my 3 1/2 year old and 8 month old.
Add in that I may cut my moms 1/2 acre ever few weeks and then the summer heat.
It started when lowes offered a free cart with the purchase of a JD a few weeks ago. Before that I never really thought about it.

I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of 34/36" walk behinds when I was cutting grass. Perfect size IMHO, but you really just need a self propelled push mower.
Over a half acre, you can consider a riding mower

Yea especially for dicks with 36" gates.
Gravely and Hustler both make some kickass 36" ZTRs though and they cost about the same as the walk/ride behinds.

My whole lot is just shy of a half acre. Actual grass I have to cut is probably 1/3 of an acre. I can cut it with a push mower in 90 minutes if I'm not hustling. I can knock it out in an hour if I'm hustling. The mower was $175. No way I'm spending the kind of money on a riding mower that might make that a 30 minute job.

I have one and love it. My yard is ~ 3/4 acre and it takes me around 1.5 hrs to cut it.

Exmark and SCAG also make really nice ones. Buying a used walk behind is significantly cheaper than buying a used ZTR with the same specs. I have no idea why, but that's what I found when I was cutting for SS. They speed up the process a lot

Riding mowers and zero turns may damage your yard more than it's worth for such a tiny yard

Yea there is a nice Scag ride behind on LA Sportsman right now for $1500. You couldn't touch a good used 36" ZTR for that. For some reason though the new ones aren't that much cheaper than ZTRs.

I'm abt to hire mine out. I love to do it, but I am getting busy at work and I just don't have the time to spend in the yard vs to spend with my family.

Didn't you buy a fairly big ZTR for a smaller yard?

No doubt I would do this.
Time> money.
Over a summer that is several hours.
