What's next?

Drops 100% next quarter.
Seriously though, no one knows.

Either up or down. But maybe still flat. That's all I know for sure.

1966 DJIA hit 1k points. 1985 DJIA broke 1k points. It can go sideways...

People always complain about flat markets and market volatility, but if you are still in the stock acquisition phase of your life, having a hug bull market isn't a particularly good thing. I would rather have a ton of crashes while I am buying and rely on the law of large numbers to revert the market back to an equilibrium point when I retire.
If my 401k quadrupled tomorrow, my lifestyle wouldn't change and I would probably be considering reducing the risk in my portfolio. Most people would be feeling the wealth effect real hard and probably ramping up risk exposure.

No doubt. I've got 40 years to invest.

I don't know what the stock market did yesterday, I don't know what it will do tomorrow. I just know that I'm putting 25% of my income into a SP 500 Index Fund on the 1st of this month (today) and every month after that.
ETA: Just looked, I lost $350 in the market today! (More than I made at work)

I guess the good news is there is no bad news.
I am somewhat surprised, and I don't know why, that things have remained as flat as they have amid the free fall in oil...maybe they are apples and oranges.
Someone on Political Talk told me to be patient as the ripple effect of lower prices will take time...okay...I'm still waiting...the poster made some derisive remark about me being a liberal/anti-business as I didn't expect prices to reflect the lower price for crude...the last thing I am is a liberal, especially when it comes to the private sector

This is the more interesting topic to me. At some point you have to win the game right? And when you do hit that number what do you do with your allocation or risk exposure.

Great question...There is a number in my head that is independent, yet a part of, of our overall worth (not that it is that much) that conveys a sense of safety to me. If that number is not threatened or broached then I tend to leave things alone as what we have is pretty diversified. We have worked pretty hard the past six months to attend to matters related to finance with a particular eye on what sort of lifestyle we hope to have five years from now with not wishing to ever burden our children with our care/welfare and that thought probably drives our thinking more than any other which in turn speaks to allocation/risk exposure
