Come on. He is second all time in career blocks only to Shaq. He was much better than an average player for LSU.
How will we remember him in 10-15 years?
I think he was a very good player, but I think he is leaving before really making his mark historically.
Of course he was better than average, but he won't be remembered with the greats nor will he have a bigtime NBA career to help refresh our minds. He will go off to Europe, make good money, and be forgotten.

Skillset is the only thing that matters. If you cant shoot no NBA team is going to play you at the 3. You play your position in the NBA generally, it's not like college. The only thing he can play in the NBA is the 4, which is why his stock is so low, being that he's only 6'7-6'8.
Outside of the shot blocking, what skills does he have that make him a 4 (obviously we are grading on the NBA curve)? He isn't a prolific rebounder (was above average in college, but not a natural), his on ball defense is terrible. His help defense isn't much better. In the NBA, his chasing of shot block opportunities is going to result in a boatload of backside dunks. He doesn't really have a post game. His plus shot is actually that little 17 footer he shoots. His length and size scream 3. The real issue we agree on, though. His stock is low because he likely can't hold up at the 4 and isn't skilled enough to play the 3 at this point.

His shot blocking ability was uncanny. He'll obviously never be a top 20 all-time LSU player, but because of the shot blocks he made a mark and won't easily be forgotten.

There aren't many NBA 4s (even small ball) at 6'7". I understand what his game is, that doesn't make him a 4, it makes him a bad fit for the 3 where he would have to play.
The average 4 height in the NBA is 6’9.5". The mode height is 6'9". The guys who have Mickey's size are Maxiell and Blair. Their games are vastly different than Mickey's in terms of their rebounding and defensive prowess. The average 4 weight in the NBA is 246.
Now consider the 3. Average 6’7.75" Mode 6’7"/6’8" (Tied). Not to be rude, but guess where yer boy is going to have to try to make it in the NBA. He isn't a 4. Period.
You are giving the reason why he won't play in the NBA. His game is waaaaaaaay more suited to be a 4. Think Carl Landry or Paul Millsap. Landry is a better example because he has played as a reserve for a significant portion of his career.
If things went perfect for Mickey, and he developed a consistent shot...and he developed the ability to put the ball on the floor from 15 feet and get to the rim, he could maybe play that role. I think that is a pretty long shot at best.
I can't think of any way he could end up playing the 3.

We just have an honest disagreement. Given his athleticism and what he could become defensively if he were to dedicate himself, I think it is much more likely a team could get him to be a poor man's mid-career Tayshaun Prince or a poor man's early career Richard Jefferson (slasher high flyer, not the corner 3 iteration later in his career)/Caron Butler, then the wide bodies of Paul Millsap and Carl Landry (both of whom are taller and heavier than he is).
Obviously, I'm no scout, and acknowledge that you may very well be right. That's just my opinion based on what I've seen from him.

Two words of advice for Mickey - Rosetta Stone.

He's a post player, which makes him a back to the basket type 4 in the NBA, simple as that. He has no shot, which is why he can never play the 3. He NEVER even tried to make the 3 a part of his game.

he will be remembered for running out of gas and clanking a few free throws that helped cost us a tournament win but i choose to remember the highlight reel dunks, blocks and game-changing plays he made to help us make the damn dance in the first place.
don't see him getting drafted this year, but he'd probably be a long shot to go next year as well.

Good luck Jordan (if you're reading this it's not too late to change your mind)

He played in the post some maybe even most of the time. That does not make him a post player. He wasn't really hitting hook shots and backing people down. He had a good baseline move that got him dunks, but he was a slasher guy with a 17 footer. That's more 3 than 4 to my mind. He wasn't very good with his back to the basket, and wasn't very good as a passer from there either (the Alabama game comes to mind).
If you are an NBA team, you're going to teach him how to drive and kick and play balls out on ball defense. I don't think you can teach him how to not get knocked around by the bruising NBA fours. You can probably make that guy a great defender, rebounder, and slasher at the 3, however. Just my thought.

Honestly, he normally just turned the ball over when he was posting up... At least they won't call a travel on his little spin move like they do in college, but I don't think he will have much success posting up in NBA. Possible over seas but only time will tell.
I still wish the best for him. He was a favorite of many, and I loved what he brought to the squad. I really, really wish he would be on the team next year. Could have made a huge difference.

yeah, he'd be a nice starter on next seasons team but he wouldn't be counted on near as much if the new recruits are who we think they are.

I wish the young man had gotten better advice. I guess he will play in Europe or elsewhere; he will not make it in the NBA, because he does not have a position for that league. He should have stayed at LSU for two more years; he would have been taken care by someone. Good luck, and I hope you prove me wrong.

He needs another year (maybe 2 to refine his game). Also coming back and honing your game isn't just about getting drafted, it's developing the skills to stay in a league when you get there.
HOw dense are you? You think he couldn't do that even better by devoting himself to basketball. D league and Europe > than college for developing his skills.

I think he knew he would not develop further under JJ.

He would have done well at the collage level if the floors were made of concrete.

May not get drafted. Hopefully he can get a position to play in Europe.

Every single scout/analyst I've seen has him as not getting drafted and that he needs to come back. I'm not sure where he got his information, but its not good.
you care to link any of these scouts and analysts????
