Let's not lose sight of what this season was about

Sure, last nights loss was a crushing one, and I was as disappointed as the next guy, but let's not forget what this tournament was about. Winning a tournament game is nice, but this year was really about experience. Now we have guys that have been there and played in a tight game on the biggest stage in college basketball, even if they did lose.
Next season guys like Patterson, Hornsby, Quarterman, and hopefully Martin and Mickey can come back and lead this team with experience. Even if we managed to escape last night, odds are it would've ended with a loss to Villanova. Hopefully this season served as a valuable lesson to our young Tigers that will be important come next March. If anything, the M&M boys now have more motivation to come back better than ever and finish what they started. So no, this is not a death knell for Tiger Basketball, it's a stepping stone to the future.

No. No they're not.

WTF. Dude in the modern era of one and done two and done Experience is overrated. LSU leads the free world in athletes getting the fuk out of BR as fast as they can.

I'm not saying they will come back, I'm saying it doesn't hurt to feel like you have unfinished business

Money is also "motivation" and whether they are NBA caliber or not, both M@M can make money next year.

Hey everyone, let's bash the OP because he said that a tough loss in the dance gives M&M motivation to come back.
Everything in his post was pretty accurate and you guys get hung up on a positive sentence he said and turn it negative. Typical butthurt tiger fan.

The goal was to get to the tournament and gather one losing game's experience?

Last nights game was a reflection of this season. At times they play well enough to beat anyone and at other times they play poorly.

I don't think Martin is coming back but maybe Mickey. With him coming back and an improved Quarterman, Hornsby and Patterson along with Ben Simmons, Blakeney and hopefully Newman I can see us having a very successful year next season

I presume for some people, the hurt of losing so many games in a similar meltdown fashion, exceeds the optimism of a year better than the previous one.
It's sort of like in the Kentucky Derby, your horse comes in 2nd after it's favored to come in 3rd. Are you happier if your horse HAD a 16 length lead coming into the stretch to finish 2nd, or if your come came FROM 16 lengths down to finish 2nd.
Me I prefer the latter, and hate the former. That's why so many are butthurt today. It was like a another guy stealing your girlfriend the night of the prom. How could you let that happen without a fight?

Well no shite. Who else would lead Baton Rouge in that category? Southern or BRCC?

People need to get this out of their head. Not happening

Chances like last night are rare if you're a non-basketball focused school such as LSU. Maybe Jones' system can get us there again in '16? He's recruiting well but it sure looks like his teams lack focus & fundamentals. He has to improve on this or LSU will never make it to a Sweet 16 or Elite 8. You can't just rely on athleticism. You have to coach.

Oh so another next year theory.

Kind of a silly statement when the best basketball players never stick around long enough to employ that experience at the college level.

The team GOAL is to improve during the season. The first half and the second half of the game were mirror images of the season.
It is not unrealistic of fans to expect the team to improve, as making free throws and holding onto double digit leads.
If this game had been the only game like that for the whole season, then I would agree with you, but it was not. It was more of the same problems.
Now I hope the team that returns and the coaches learn something from this year...but I suspect we will be told that we should not expect our new recruits to play great ball because, well, they are freshman. Hope it isn't but we will see.

There are two types of team that can make a run in the tournament, ones with talented one and done players and ones with seasoned experience. Teams like UK that can recruit an entirely new team year in and year out with good results are the exception not the rule.
Lets take last year's tourney, UCONN won, despite not playing a freshman for more than half the game and was led by a senior. Florida and Wisconsin also made the final four with experienced teams.
Even this years UK team, which is loaded with Freshman, plays 3 upperclassmen more minutes than anyone else.
So experience is still important in college basketball.
