Jarret Lee already has the interception part of the job down.

Is either going into his Senior Year in High School, or sitting on the bench as a freshman this year.
This is pretty accurate in my opinion
Brees' armstrength is waning

Mariota could be a very successful NFL quarterback if he works very hard on his mechanics. He is much more mature than Winston IMO. He (Winston) gets rattled way too easily and loses his cool.
Anyone think we may take a look at a 5th round or up qb to "work on" the next couple seasons?

Yes. Several. Petty looks interesting.

Mariota will be a bust if he has to play day one. He is no where near prepared to handle an NFL offense that doesn't involve Chip Kelly as being the head coach & offensive coordinator. Just imagine the average elementary school student having to go from elementary math straight into college algebra. That's the type of learning curve Mariota is facing coming out of a college spread offense into NFL pro style offense.

Off the field, the comparison isn't really close. Mariota is far more mature than Winston at this point. When comes down to who is more prepared from a technical & systematic standpoint, it's Winston by a mile. People will point at Winston's interceptions from this past season but that is just a reflection of one, his self confidence & two, the lack of consistent 2nd & 3rd receivers at FSU in 2014.
Quarterbacks who are ultra confident & as well as having a complete understanding of reading defenses, will take risk when the talent level around them is subpar. Brees does the same thing. So do Peyton Manning, Tom Brady & Andrew Luck. Past greats like Favre & Marino threw picks in bunches at times too. Aaron Rodgers is the exception & not the norm. He hardly ever throws picks. The biggest question mark surrounding Winston is behavior off the field. That is what will ultimately make or break him.

Brett Favre felt the same way. Truth is, he groomed Aaron Rodgers without even realizing he was doing so. It doesn't have shite to do with Brees taking a young quarterback under his wing but has a ton to do with a young quarterback being able to observe an all time great train, prepare in the film room, prepare on the practice field & how to lead a team from the most important position of all. Brees has to do nothing but continue being the player he has always been. The passing on of the information will take care itself through Sean Payton.

I'm ok with waiting til brees hangs it up to find a replacement. We need to utilize every draft pick and every dollar to get players to help us win while Drew is here. After that I don't care if we suck for a few years. As saints fans, we know very well how it feels to be a bottom dweller. A few of those years after drew retires won't kill anyone.

I'll toss an LSU name out there- Mettenberger. Not because he's LSU, but because:
he can make every throw, and will need about 3 more years before you know if he can be a legit starter. He's shown some promise already. However, he may well be the odd man out if Tennessee drafts Mariotta... they will have to go with their high draft pick. And honestly, outside of mobility, I think Mettenberger has the edge in every other part (especially the arm).
If not Mett, then I expect it will be someone with a similar situation- in the league now, shows potential, ready to start in 3 years, but will be bumped by some unproven college QB with gaudy stats.

I love Brees but he definitely has a chip on his shoulder. I read his autobiography or least the first third or so before I couldn't endure the sports platitudes anymore.
Judging by how he views the way he was treated in San Diego and by the Dolphins organization when they were evaluating him, he definitely seems to be pretty sensitive. That was also somewhat compounded by the bitter contract dispute he created in 2012. Even drafting a top guy in the first round or so in any of the next couple of years could be awkward.
If I'm wrong and it would go smoothly, and we could get a guy to learn under his tutelage, I would love try to pick up Aaron Murray or a guy like him in the draft.

More than likely any legitimate successor is going to have to be a higher draft pick. Not a lot of diamond in the rough probowl caliber quarterbacks out out there.
I agree with St Aug on this. I don't think our QB is in this draft.

It's tough too given the current propensity for spread offenses in cfb. I think in the near future you're going to see an even greater disparity between the haves and have nots at the qb position in the nfl(at least how it's currently played). For every Luck out there, there is a ton of crap as well as good spread qbs who just can't make the transition.
I said in another thread if we genuinely thought there was a probowl caliber qb at top of this draft it'd easily be worth trading our bounty of picks... But both top guys have pretty big questions about them.
Also besides Brady and Romo, I'm not able to recall any current qbs drafted /picked up late who are in the upper tier of current NFL qbs. Even a developmental candidate is likely going to be selected in the first 3 rds if we're being honest.
