Accepting a New Job Timeline?

So I've been offered a new job in a different part of the country that I am 95% sure I'm gonna take. My only holdup is the start timeline.
They need me pretty much as soon as possible. I have a week and a half trip out of the country booked with flights and hotels the week before Memorial Day.
What's an acceptable delay in starting IYO? Will they laugh at me if I ask them to start the 1st of June?

Tell them exactly what your situation is. Maybe you can start a little before and use vacation time or they may say they can wait till June...
June is a long time away though.

I would advise them of the scheduled vacation and ask them if it's a problem with you keeping it. Then, I'd give 2 weeks notice and start then, so you can start your benefits package asap.

Was start date discussed during the interview process? When you are required to relocate for a new position, they are generally more flexible with start dates. Did you mention your trip during your interview? I have never had an issue starting a job and being able to take a vacation as long as it was mentioned during the interview process. I would suggest saying May 1 and being able to take that vacation without if affecting time accrued/PTO or June 1, and have the company choose.

I'd tell them I've got a prior commitment that's been paid for the week before Memorial Day. I can start now and expect that time off to be comped (not applied to accrued vacation) or I can be reimbursed for the cost of the trip and take it at a later date.

Current company let me keep a scheduled vacation I booked before accepting the job. The time off was in addition to normal vacation time. They just said it was part of the price in getting the people they want.
So, just be honest with them and see if they will work around this for you.

Tell them you want the job and would like to start now but you will need that time off, if not you can start on June 1st.

This.
Real companies know you have a life.
If they balk (they won't) I would seriously reconsider.

I took a 1.5 week vacation within 3 weeks of starting a job before. They knew it was happening before I started so it wasn't a big deal.
A guy I work with took a month long vacation 2 days after he started working here. That takes balls, but no one cared.
