Looking for pro's and con's. Good stories and bad.
My wife was just given some by her doctor to help with anxiety. She told her to try it for 30 days and see if it helps or not.

Split the supply with me and we'll run an experiment.

20 mg a day. Has made a huge difference for me. Hope she receives similar benefits.

I took one pill, had a burning sensation for about 10 minutes, thought I was going to die and then started to hyperventilate. Basically it gave me a panic attack. Probably won't happen to you but it is a rare-ish side effect.

Made my father more depressed and anxious, while causing him to want cigarettes for the first time in 10 years. Apparently he was in the 6% of users in which it magnifies the symptoms it's intended to remedy.

Quit caffeine altogether. Helped me with anxiety issues.

My wife takes it. Probably wouldn't be married anymore without it.
Kidding, but its great for her-not sure of dose.

She is supposed to pick it up today and start her first dose tonight. I guess I am just weary of any meds that might alter a person's mood or personality. She does suffer from anxiety and drives me crazy sometimes with it so I would love for this to help her, but I don't want it to change her personality or make her a zombie.

I use it off and on, which is probably not the best way to go about it.
It helps reduce stress, but working out and running does the same thing for me. It doesn't give me a fuzzy feeling or anything, but it does tone down my ability to find the patterns.

My wife used to take it. Seemed to help. Now she's on something different that helps with anxiety but also helps with other symptoms she has.

What do you mean by this?

might have to trial and error through something else if lexapro doesn't work. if that doesn't work tell her to try citalopram. It works for me whereas lexapro didn't

Tell your wife to deal with anxiety like a normal grown up instead of swallowing pills. The number of people using RX meds these days to help them mentally cope with life is pathetic. If she can't be normal without taking mental pills it may be time to end that relationship.
Lexapro will make her like an emotionless zombie from what I've seen from people I know who took it.

it has little to no effect if you use it off and on

I don't know if it's because of the anxiety, a by-product, or just a skill I have, but I'm really good at seeing patterns. It helps a ton with my current job of auditing, and I've picked up on plenty of issues because of it.
I don't know how to explain it, but when things don't fit, it drives me insane, and I feel the need to understand why the pattern is broken.

I've been on it for 8 years and you're wrong.

That's what I thought. I use it for a month or so, and then stop for a couple of weeks.
Consistency is a huge issue in my life, and always has been.

Wow. Would you leave her if she got cancer too?

Lexapro doesn't make you a zombie.

Piss off, tough guy.
Different antidepressants affect different people in different ways. There is no blanket statement answer.
