Season 4 had elements from multiple books.

I'd stay off these boards till you catch up. But yeah, GOT is great. One of my favorite series of all time.

Game of Thrones - First Season thoughts by Bham4Tide
I remember upon rewatch last year that S1 was so focused on only a few storylines, that it was much more fleshed out.
And don't get me wrong, the show is still fantastic, but sometimes it can make you feel bogged down trying to keep up with everything that is going on in so many different areas and with so many different people/situations. It can get overwhelming, especially if you don't read the books and don't already know about everything.
ETA: I agree with the person above who said you might wanna avoid GoT discussion on this board until you're caught up.

Even more disappointing is that it looks like HBO is going to shite all over the last two books.

YOu'd think he'd be safe in a thread that says "First Season" in the title.
IS THERE NO SAFE HAVEN!?

People live to spoil shite. It is known.

The one piece of advice that I give all new viewers of GoTs is to google Robert's Rebellion. It'll give you the background you probably need to understand the events that lead up to season 1, and a little background on the major houses.
Youtube has the entire DVD extra background illustrated movie - they are over an hour long but definitely worth a watch.

Why do you feel the need to post that at all? Are you mentally challenged? Just let the guy watch the show. Even putting spoilers is just stupid. Clearly not something that needed to be posted in this thread.

This is why I avoided all GOT threads until I had finished reading the books. I had already had a few things spoiled for me via FB, didn't need any more here.

Seriously, good Lord.
the guy has clearly and explicitly stated he's only watched 1 season. I just don't get that mindset. Do people think that others will look up to them, or think they're smart or something, simply by having watched a show earlier than others? It's like "I have this knowledge, I know something you don't. It empowers me. I will drop hints for you as a fun game to show that I know more than you about the subject matter" That's the mindset I imagine people have who post stuff like that in threads like this.

I mean, just look at what that a-hole Alum did a little while ago. So fricking stupid and unnecessary for people to do that, yet they can't help themselves.
Another piece of advice for the OP (if he's still in here, which I almost hope he isn't) is to use subtitles when watching the show. Not only does it help understand what the frick they're saying at times, but it also shows a lot of names and places, and seeing them in writing really helps you understand and follow things a lot more clearly. I've found it really helpful, and now I don't watch the show without them.

If you're just in Season 1 you still have to watch about it. I watched the Catelyn Stark perspective of Robert's Rebellion from the History and Lore videos with the intention of sharing it here and it had a spoiler at the end that went beyond Season 1.

I watched the comicbook girl videos on all the background info
