This is IMO where people mess up.
All bs aside ...how well do really know someone else?
You don't.

Yeah, my 9 year old pretty much has the run of my neighborhood if he wants. Sorry you live a paranoid existence. Nothing's "different" today except that there are more silly paranoid people than there used to be, it seems.

Most grown women are not capable of not letting someone take advantage of them physically should they choose to do so either.
My line is I need to be comfortable that my child is old enough to tell me if something happened and have a good understanding of what is not acceptable. If the potential predator knows the child will know what is wrong and will tell me, then I think the risk is minimal. Again this all goes with being smart about who the people are and knowing them very well in the first place.

This article struck a nerve with me. The well being of my children gives me much anxiety. In particular the whereabouts of them. I mean can we ever be 100% certain that the spermicide killed all of them, and none made it through?

The children of overly protective parents are almost always socially inept and often face a major shock when they enter college and other stages of life.
While it is certainly understandable to want to protect your children at all costs, denying them the ability to socialize with their friends in a setting such as a sleepover severely hinders their ability to maintain friendships.
If you're worried about certain situations in which your child might be in danger during a sleepover, simply don't let them sleep over at that house. I think it is just as important for the parents to get to know each other as it is for the kids to know each other. If you're comfortable with the setting, let them go. Kids notice things like overly protective parents, and it could affect how they interact with your kid.

Problem is, you never really know a person.
Working in the school system, you see all kinds of messed up situations coming from normal, happy families.
Once again, can't live life scared, but you better realize you'll truly know a person.

I don't when they age stops... 10? 11? 12?
You hear stories all the time about grown women getting "taken advantage" of.

Yeah it's called rape.
If you can't see the difference between a child getting taken advtg of and an adult... Idk what to tell you.
I sincerely hope you are trolling.

My son is 10, kid up the road is 9, he stays at our house almost every weekend. My son doesn't stay at there house because dad has so social anxiety issues. Mom told us up front about dad. Maybe I'm to relaxed but I normally have to make them come inside about 10 they go to his room to play the xbox. I get up about 2 am turn all the lights an the xbox off because they are out. They will be back up ready to go again by 8.

Excuse me, neighborhood. Much different, be careful, it sounds rough.

They are faking, so they can sneak out and roll the neighbors house.
God damn I had a great childhood.

Yall are some paranoid SOBs. The people who my oldest would likely sleepover at, granted hes 19 months so I have time to digest this, I have literally known all of my life. Not just them, their spouse, their parents, their spouses parents, their siblings, their spouses siblings. Its one thing to know a family down the street, its a totally different thing that I am referring to.

Yes you want to protect you kids. My wife says I'm more overly protective of our kids than the Secret Service is with the POTUS. But you can't shelter them totally from the world. That's why instead of locking them up hiding them from the world, you instead get to know their friends and their friends' parents. Let them have sleepovers but before you know, get to know the people who's house they will be visiting.

Alright well what happens when they go to elementary school and make new friends that you haven't known "literately all your life"
Pretty sure that's the point here.
