Whoever said that Louisiana school tuition is cheaper than Texas doesn't know what they are talking about.

Out of state tuition at LSU is greater than three times a Texas state school tuition.

Is this true? I know Texas schools charge a lot of "additional fees" beyond what they classify as tuition. So you end up paying way more than the published tuition. I know anecdotally a lot of our friends here in Dallas have looked at LSU for their kids because its competitive on costs with Texas schools.

US News has UT-A undergrad in-state tuition at just under $10,000. LSU OOS is $26,500 roughly.

But generally, yes, LSU is cheaper. LSU in-state is under $9,000 while UT-A OOS is $35,000.

Acceptance rates are far, far higher at LSU, though. And it is definitely easier to get money there. Particularly in-state. TOPS is (or was) a fricking joke to get. It took me a 32 ACT and 4.4 GPA to get full-ride tuition while I understand Louisiana residents got the same deal for 25 ACT and 3.5 GPA.

I can verify. I write the checks to LSU and wrote the checks to Tech.

Daughter is finished and went to Texas Tech. Son is currently at LSU.

He was an honors student at a Katy high school and there are no financial discounts coming from LSU.

Average semester cost at TT was around 6500. First two years at LSU a semester cost has been 19000 for out of state. That includes books and housing and associated fees.

Supa give up TCU. That is close to 30k a semester.
