So is snake wearing a diaper now? I didn't really keep up with things after 4, so I don't know if this is a reboot or they fantasied their way out of him folding into himself.

LOL, no.
This takes place after MGS3 and MGS:PW...This is not Solid Snake. This is Big Boss, Solid Snake's father. This one is supposed to show how Big Boss goes from good guy to bad guy (Anakin to Vader).
In the MGS world, the chronological order of events is:
Metal Gear Solid 3 (How Big Boss becomes Big Boss)
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP)(Big Boss still good guy)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Big Boss still good guy, builds a mother base)
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Big Boss still good guy, someone destroys his base)
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Big Boss goes bad guy)
Metal Gear (Solid Snake defeats Big Boss, destroys his base)
Metal Gear 2 (same thing again, Big Boss "dies")
Metal Gear Solid (Solid Snake stops his brother, Liquid Snake)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (Solid Snake and Raiden get trolled by Liquid Ocelot)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (series concludes, Solid Snake is an old mofo)

Oh ok.
So have they ever said there will be anything after 4? The whole "V" gimmick is a bit misleading.

It's Kojima, I'm sure he will eventually get there but you won't know for a while.

Chronologically, no. Technically, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance takes place after MGS4, but it really has nothing to do with the canon story and isn't counted as such.
Metal Gear Solid V has multiple meanings. Obviously one is V stands for 5. However, there is another meaning within the game and I don't know enough about it nor do I want to spoil it.

If they weren't so preachy, I think it would lose some of it's convoluted nature. I don't think I ever felt more dumb/disinterested trying to along with 4.

Can't wait. Looks incredible

Despite my distaste for the plot in general, I am quite interested in watching big boss's slide into becoming an evil douchebag.
Although I'm sure that Kojima will play the misunderstood angle heavily and diminish the impact of it.

Up until a few days ago, I totally forgot this is coming out this year (probably). I might be more pumped for this than Zelda Wii U.
Here's a gameplay video in case anyone is curious about what it looks and plays like.

nice video.
I can't help but think that Quiet may be a little too helpful though. she was laying down some serious support fire.
also, I can't wait to hear what sort of explanation there is for her seemingly supernatural powers. because nanomachines?

quote:Yeah...maybe? I don't care, though. The series has always had characters that seemed to fit better into a super hero film than a serious military drama.
I can't wait to hear what sort of explanation there is for her seemingly supernatural powers. because nanomachines?
- A guy that can control hornets with his mind
- A robot ninja that can turn invisible
- A Russian colonel who can shoot lightening from his hands
- A vampire that can block bullets with his throwing knives
A lot of that has been explained with nano-machines before, so I guess they'll just use that again. Honestly though, the absurd mixed with the serious is one of the reasons why I come to the Metal Gear series.

There was a rumor a while back that Psycho Mantis is in this game. Maybe he's actually a she.

The Phantom Cigar is supposed to be able to allow you to pass time quickly in game.
