We generally do it in April but since Spring Training has started why not do it now. I am also trying to make a complete team not just power.
7 Rickey Henderson
5 Pete Rose
8 Mickey Mantle
9 Babe Ruth
DH Barry Bonds
3 Lou Gehrig
2 Johnny Bench
6 Ozzie Smith
4 Joe Morgan
Starting Pitcher Bob Gibson
I think I will be able to score some runs and have decent defense. I know I have a nasty power pitcher for help.
I also know there is no correct starting 9 as all of them posted will be decent.

I'm keeping mine to players whose prime was 1960s and later. It's just too hard to compare players from earlier IMO.
C- Johnny Bench
1B Albert Pujols
2B Joe Morgan
SS Ozzie Smith
3B- Brooks Robinson
LF Rickey Henderson
CF Willie Mays
RF Hank Aaron
DH Pete Rose
Henderson

Aaron
Mays
Pujols
Morgan
Bench
Robinson
Smith
SP Sandy Koufax
RP Mariano Rivera

This is a minor quibble, but I would much rather have Bonds in the field with Ruth DHing.

Who would people choose over him? Serious question. I considered early career A Rod, but decided against it.

It's not even close and I do not get why you are trying to say otherwise.
Smith defined the Shortstop position and defensive brilliance.
Now if you want Vizquel on your starting 9 that is fine, but I will take Smith over all, because he was that great defensively. I do not care what he hit.

I think defense is important and underrated, but I easily take ARod over Ozzie. Prime ARod wasn't Ozzie with the glove, but he was still a good defensive SS. Plus the bat difference is huge.

Honus Wagner - Career .327 hitter top 10 in hits all time.
Ripken won a couple of MVPs at SS and ROY - Shows up every day.
Not saying you are wrong, because it is all subjective. But I think that these guys could have an argument as well.

shite....Andrelton Simmons is amazing on defense but I dont want him on my all time team.

I guess I didn't consider Wagner since I was going with more modern era. I can see the argument for Ripken but I would probably take young A Rod over Ripken if I was opting for more power and less defense, JMO

Assuming this collects all players in their prime years...
8 - Mike Trout
3 - Albert Pujols
7 - Barry Bonds
5 - Mike Schmidt
DH - Ken Griffey Jr
6 - Robin Yount
4 - Roberto Alomar
2 - Pudge Rodriguez
9 - Ichiro Suzuki
SP - Pedro Martinez
Superb mix of L/H & R/H power and speed everywhere. Superb defense as well which is why I chose someone like Ichiro over Stan Musial. Say what you want about Mike Trout, but all he needs is the longevity and sustain throughout his career. He's already had 2 seasons that are better than any season Rickey Henderson has ever had. Pedro had about a 4-5 year stretch that was as dominant as anyone in the history of the game and his pitbull attitude is contagious.

What kills me in trying to make a complete team is I had to leave off the best 3B of all time in my opinion, Mike Schmidt and the best defensive 3b of all time Brooks Robinson.

Who cares about great defense when you're going to be scoring 28 runs a game?
