re: Brandon's high school coach comments

"The big concern with him is about his mental makeup," said one of the coaches. "When we saw him in Dallas, he kept telling people how he'd never really been coached before. Like, he was using the same excuse, the same crutch, on people. He sounded rehearsed. You wonder if he's the guy who makes excuses when the chips are all on the table and things aren't going right. You wonder how he'd carry a locker room. Will kids see right through him?"
Spot on
BH is the only person that can change this

I don't hate Miles. In fact, I like the guy. But I do think he handled the QB situation very poorly this year. You're telling me that giving a true freshman his first start on the road at Auburn and letting him play a half is a fair shot? And then looking at the product AJ put out the rest of the year and doing nothing about it was fair too?
They already admitted to handling it wrong, Cam Cameron said that personally. The fact that people take that as favoritism towards Jennings or that Harris will never get another shot is just their hatred towards Miles.

I can understand and appreciate Brandon's HS coach supporting im and pulling for his success. That said, his public comments were ill advised and accomplished nothing positive. In fact, just the opposite, he's placed Brandon in a very awkward position. If he wants to help Brandon, he could not do a worse job of it.

Again, you saw 42 hours total of the QB situation. The coaches see that in a week.
I've heard several times that Harris is terrible in practice (forgetting plays, missing badly on throws, etc). How can a coach feel confident putting a guy out there when he can't even do right in practice?
My God, many on the recruiting board immediately after he was recruited, said that he was raw, and would need at least a year before he could really compete. Man it would have been great to have Rettig here to bridge the gap between Harris so he could have redshirted. So he wouldn't have been put in this situation. So he could do some growing up (many in the media says he's very immature and there are fans of Auburn and OSU and LSU even before NSD last year that talk about his huge ego).

Fletch will now be talking about this all morning tomorrow. I thought I would only have to hear these dumbass comments this morning and one day on TD.

"Brandon Harris is faster, throws the ball harder and really runs hard.. Miles said after the Bowl game." "Why Harris did not play more last season will forever be a mystery. His ability shined early with spectacular performances against Mississippi State (His 2 TDs in 23 seconds vs Miss State set a record for BH and Dupre) and New Mexico State in relief of Jennings. Nine of the 10 combined drives he led in those games resulted in touchdowns." In the NMST game AJ went 1-for-7 with a fumble and 2 back-to-back INTs (repeated 2 INTs in Ole Miss game) for a -21 QBR. Harris went 7-for-7, and 9-for-10 in 20 minutes of playing time that translated to 3.15 pts per minute, 63 pts, a pace nearly twice as high as Oregon and the highest QB rating in the nation at 243.
However, AJ from that point forward accounted for only 5 TDs in the last 10 games, the lowest scoring rate in the nation, historically low, never seen before low. Less TDs in 10 games than Harris had in 20 minutes! His 2 TDs to Dupre in 2 minutes of playing time vs Miss State = 7 pts/min.
The NFL is pass first/pass second with 55-68% of plays being passes, 75% shotgun (avg) with 58% of plays having 3 or more WRs. Manning avgs 86% shotgun, Flacco 87% (2013) with the Eagles over 92%.
Jennings stalled, regressed as the season went on. Over the last 4 games he had 3 TDs, 4 INTs, 3 fumbles, (20 sks on the yr), avg 10 completions, (40/85 = 47%), 11 pts/game and ranked from 126-128th in the FBS.
DatBayouBengal and others repeatedly say that Harris only played 2 years in High School when he played 4 and came from a football family. He took over the junior varsity team in 9th grade, a group that had not won a game in 2 years and they went 8-2 with Harris whipping stinging spirals so hard the receivers all had to get gloves..just walked out of nowhere with an NFL arm, throwing perfect spirals, reading defenses, leading a team, and breaking tackles with his hard running style. He threw a 74 yd pass as a sophomore. As the number 1 DTQB in the nation (until he committed to LSU) in his senior season he accounted for as much rushing, passing, and offensive scoring as LSU in 2013. Have a look at his senior highlights: Brandon Harris Parkway High School Senior Season (Division 1 QB) and his background LSU Freshman Brandon Harris is a Special Talent

Here's the thing, I saw Harris in high school play multiple times. Does he have a rocket-arm? Yes. Does he have all the athletic ability in the world? No doubt about it. But, what you don't see in all his film from high school is as soon as he felt ANY pressure, he diverted his eyes to the pressure and took them away from down-field. He got on skates and that is NOT what you want in a quarterback. This is my biggest concern with a dual-threat quarterback, when shite hits the fan, they usually fold and don't deliver a strike regardless if they get hit or not.
Now do I think Harris should be our guy, yes no questions about it. But he's gotta show that he can handle the pressure and be a leader.
Oh, and that thing about learning the offense would help too.

I think the staff just didn't want any part of a controversy.
This could have been avoided by getting Harris snaps in every game, but not starting him. However, it could be that the disparity in ability would have still caused a controversy. Maybe they recognized that.
The bottom-line is they knew he needed more grooming (irrespective of the plays he made against MSU and NMSU) and that it could go side-ways (as it did against Auburn) if he wasn't truly ready.
The NMSU game, having never witnessed a QB be that efficient and AJ's complete collapse in the midst of it, made them decide to try Harris in a start against Auburn. In any event, their initial concerns were confirmed in that particular game by putting too much pressure on him too soon.

There was a lot of discussion before the Auburn game about bringing Harris off the bench instead of starting him. I don't care who starts, I think both should have gotten playing time down the stretch. The staff made a decision with AJ and stuck to it for whatever reasoning.

Les has to motivate an entire team/ program. Those who refuse to give the proper effort and play anyway can be a cancer to an entire team and its effort on Saturdays.
No effort. No play.
And there were reports players preferred Jennings. And it could have everything to do with this.
Harris needs to take the Job, not it be given to him.

It's amazing to me how so many people take the side of Harris and support him no matter what....
...while there are reports, and many of them outside of this board, that Harris just wasn't prepared me tally. Doesn't know the play book and mentally immature.
Why do people ignore and refuse to believe that? Why would people want to give the most important position on the field to a kid thats just not ready for it?
Jennings, at this point in time, was more prepared to win 8 games instead of 6-7 that Harris would win.
I find that people will absolutely never defend one side of the story while defend and deny any negative impact that could have caused on the year.
Bottom line is to win. Bottom line is to draw crowds. Bottom line is to get to a bowl game with a higher payout. At this point in time, Harris wouldn't give that to LSU. Jennings would.

Said he texted Harris to call him to talk about JUCO and Harris texted back that he was all in with LSU. Now he's just whining like a rantard about Harris not playing more this year.

I'm not taking up for anyone. I don't like jennings, but I prefer to find reasons and look at situations objectively.
Ridiculous that people claim that Harris would have won more games than Jennings without entertaining that he very well could have lost more. I, for one, would rather see LSU win instead. of throwing the season just to let a kid who already has an issue with maturity and the lack of knowledge to win a game.
