I have to run the power cord through the wall just like the A/V cables. I'm reading that's actually against code, but I can't really see what problems it would cause. The cord is either hanging on the inside of the drywall or the outside. And it's not like Romex has that much more protection from nails and such than the regular cord.

Do not run cords thru the wall - Not code compliant.
