r/pcmasterrace has started a campaign not to preorder or buy early access games

Between the shite EA and Ubisoft have put out recently as well as all of the early access games that never get finished or progress very slowly I am all for this.
I wish the whole gaming community would follow suit.

I don't pre-order any more, but it's a good move. Paying full price for broken promises over and over.

I was pretty much already there with all of the early access games on Steam that have burned me

I read that the Sony H1Z1 game allows you to pay to get early access to the game. It will be F2P on release

I'm sure this will really hurt EA.
This "campaign" will be forgotten next week.

I stopped doing that a long time ago. It was never worth it.

Didn't EA delay the new BF game because of how bad BF4 was?

It's been going on over there for a month now give or take.

Yeah. But not because people on the internet were complaining and not pre-ordering

Well this is the first I've heard of it. Typically these type of campaigns never last long. It's like the whole Kony thing from a few years ago and way more people cared about that.
ETA: Not saying I don't support this FWIW

This is a movement I've seen slowly starting everywhere. The delusional fan boys say nothing is wrong but more people are getting burned. I've even seen gaming website personalities starting to say this. Honestly, just wait 24 hours.

Yea, I never understood why people couldn't just wait 24 hrs.
It really isn't like it used to be where if you didn't preorder a game, you couldn't find it for a while.
You lose nothing by waiting 24 hrs.

Not even 24 hours. 12 or so would be nearly sufficient. (except when the publisher bans reviews for X period of time....)
I do hope it catches on. Not just in the virtual environment (which is where 99% of "movements" these days start and end), but actually create a financially noticeable difference. An observable, substantial decrease in preorder sales. Otherwise, EA and Ubisoft are laughing at this campaign. They'll simply rip more content out of the core game to sweeten the preorder deals. Unfortunately, I believe that tactic will work.
How much pre-order revenue do PC gamers comprise anyway?

I am a professional software QA analyst, and I've got to say, this scheme by gaming companies to get end users to PAY to test unfinished software on their own personal production client is fricking brilliant
This may seem like a jab.. but it's not. The companies get invaluable feedback , and , people get to have fun and help make the game even better for the full release.
Testing is critical. There can never be too much testing. Each bug costs exponentially more to fix the later in the cycle it is found.
Releasing a bugged mess labeled as a production release is a disaster. (Halo mcc).
The 24h early access shite is dumb. Finding willing people to test your currently in-development software is a very good move for all parties involved
If the preorder of a game gives you access to a beta test then it's a good idea and boycotting this is stupid. We as a gaming community will only frick ourselves doing this

It's worth noting that ea has done better as of late after a terrible 2013. Ubisoft really needs to take note.

Only Pre-Order console games... from Nintendo.

Not just that, almost all drops are full of weapons and fall at MAX ~20 seconds from you. They aren't the cosmetic only items that are fought over that was promised.
I am all for not pre-ordering. Unless I know I am 100% getting a game no matter what (Witcher 3) and they offer me cool in-game stuffs. (I'm weak damnit) But I will never pay to beta test something.
And frick Smedley. I will never forgive him for EQ. I hope a rabid squirrel rips his dick off.

frick pre-orders. Very few companies are worth your trust.
When I stopped being able to trust Blizzard after Diablo III, I knew pre-orders were something I'd never do again.
He literally turned the greatest game of all time into the worst. Christ those expansions after velious were so bad.

Every F2P game has to have a way to make money. They don't make games out of the goodness of their heart.
BUT... in h1z1, they should 100% be cosmetic items only.
