re: In all seriousness, what's the deal with LSU and it's QB's?

when he (Mett) came in, mett had spent almost 2 years at "QB School" at UGA, a year in JUCO, and 2 years at LSU. he was a RS Sr QB who had been coachaed up early by the best and had just seen a lot
One other thought on a Transferring QB. It would seem if such a person were to come to LSU that they more than likely would be labelled a "Bad Boy", like Mett was. They will have a history of some legal problem as to why they left their previous team.
I say this because, as Brewer is an example, we won't take someone who could not make it in other programs (Texas - Arizona) because of lack of skill, we already have that. So logically the transfer we are looking for is someone who had legal difficulties previously but has talent and has worn out his welcome at another school for behavioral reasons.
Otherwise if they had all that talent and no legal or behavioral issues they would have stayed where they were, just as Mett would have.

Quotes from CC after the bowl game:
quote:I like this direction and the fact he took responsibility for the errors, shows leadership. What troubles me a little, is it took him/them an entire season to make those adjustments. He has to understand who and what he is working with, and I think he does now.
“I think our quarterbacks … I have to be honest with myself: I think I could have done a better job...I’m evaluating how I’m teaching and try to streamline some things to help Anthony play better, help develop Brandon Harris. I think both of our guys are going to be really productive quarterbacks, but I’ve got to do a better job.”
We’re going to be both – underneath the center and in the shotgun. You saw that more in the A&M game. Are we going to be a huge zone read team? I don’t know, but the threat of the zone read helps you in so many ways. It’s a little bit of a balancing act for us because we do believe in some traditional things, and a guy like Leonard benefits from those traditional thoughts where we can put him 7-8 yards behind the quarterback and let him run down hill on people.
We’re going to continue to do that. Mesh those two things together.
quote:
“We had young guys. They were different than a fifth-year guy like Zach Mettenberger,” Cameron said. “Having a Drew Brees in the National Football League, or Joe Flacco, Phillip Rivers. I’m evaluating how I’m teaching and try to streamline some things to help Anthony play better, help develop Brandon Harris. I think both of our guys are going to be really productive quarterbacks, but I’ve got to do a better job.”

he funny thing is that they seemed to go to more option against TAMU
frick the option, we don't need a running QB, we need a guy that can avoid the rush once or twice and can throw a pigskin football accurately.
Signed
Fournette/Dural/Dupree/DeSean Smith/Diarse/Quinn and all the other damn studs that walk through our doors...give them the ball!!!
Mett said it best! its my job to get the ball into the hands of Playmakers! he had a shite ton of them and we had a good offense because he could do that precise thing!...
If you have a competent QB the play calling will change...It has to be Harris.

LSU did throw the ball it was on obvious passing downs for long yardage (6-7+ yards) On those plays, Auburn's defense could just pin their ears back and send everybody at Harris, who was scrambling for his life on passing downs.
quote:
Finally someone puts the Auburn game in the correct light in stead of saying Harris played horrible. LSU defense gave up 17 points, our offense basically ran the ball conservative and we all understand Les did not want to lose the game from the start. Auburn defense line saw blood and went after Harris, we put him in a bad situation and he never recovered.
The off season will heal all wounds and Harris will be back in the Fall
damn straight..

Name a single SEC program that hasn't some QB issues over the past decade.

Slow,
I think you were spot on in your post..
Im gonna have to disagree on this one, they looked pretty damn fluid to me, its why most people were dumbfounded when he put JJ back in because people didnt want him to frick up a good thing...
if it aint broke dont fix it right?.. Miles couldnt fubar the back end of that season anymore if he tried..

Pro style offense too complicated and requires too much precision of ball location for young QB's to execute?
name an nfl team that runs 2 TEs and FB on 75% of its plays

They missed on Jennings he's not good enough . They missed on 3 more guys who transferred. Harris was not ready this year as a true freshmen. If Harris proves to be a miss it may well cost CLM his job.

i met one of Harris's former teamates dads at the Bowl Game in Nashville.
He said that Harris was expected to RS in 2014, but couldn't.
I think Harris will be ready in 2015 if he puts in the work.

CFB programs go through QB droughts (this killed Miami and FSU after their late 90s/early 00s dynasties), but we've made it an art form
it's a story
les and jimbo clash in 05-06 while jimbo runs his offense with his QBs from the saban era. jimbo was an amazing QB scout/recruiter and OC
les hires crowton and wants to install a modern spread scheme to mix with jimbo's offense. 2007 was the transitional year. we also had the benefit of saban's final QB recruit, who was developed by jimbo, matt flynn
then 2008 arrives and we come out with a wide open offense with lee and it's ok but HIGHLY unlucky with pick 6s. then JJ comes in for the bowl game, does well for a true frosh, so miles changes the offense again
2009-2010 were an attempt to run a spread/spread option hybrid with zone blocking with JJ. 2009 was a solid year for a true sophomore (and our defense rebuilding after the 2008 debacle helped). 2010 was pretty bad, though
i forget when, but we also decide to go back to big mammoth OL and man blocking b/c saban owns us and he's using this system
2011 JJ is suspended and we go to a SUPER vanilla offense that is efficient but pretty terrible. our defense is one of the best of the post-modern CFB era and it combined with our STs are our offense, and more importantly, are our backbreaker/momentum shifters. 2011 dissolves into a failure with 1-9-12 because our D/ST never had that momentum-shifting play and we saw how bad our offense was when left alone
2012 was OK with mett. 2013 was great when we were loaded with NFL-ready talent in CFB
now we are left with a shaky QB in jennings who just doesn't seem to process information or throw accurately and a true frosh who should have redshirted who got in the doghouse for off the field stuff. we also went back to a zone-blocking system that shook our running offense up early
i think 2015 shows us if les wants his pets at QB or if les wants an aggressive offense again with the jennings/harris decision
all this talk about "spread QB and pro offense" is bullshite. we won our 2 titles with mobile QBs. there is no reason jennings or harris should have difficulty with our more pro-style offense. they're in the same mold as flynn/mauck.
les fears throwing in the middle of the field due to 2008 and right now he only trusts an offense when we trot out an NFL team
Everything is spot on except for the last sentence. I refuse to believe he "fears" throwing in the middle of the field. We just can't fricking do it.
