I don't think the issue is travel ball per se. The problem is that coaches and parents don't know how to properly practice and how to give kids breaks. I've seen travel baseball teams that suit 12 players total. Expand that to 16-17, and rotate the kids through. Limit pitch counts - and if a kid hits his pitch count - he's out the game... not just go play another position.

I like how the point of the article is "year round sports worked for me and the 10 year old kid that went on to play MLB, but all the rest of you should not do it."

Haven't read the thread, but 95% of travel baseball people are psychos. Poor kids

I've had a lot of experience with travel ball and not all the coaches are like that. There's plenty out there who don't ruin kids arms just to win games, but for every good one there are one's that do.

In my opinion travel ball gets a bad reputation that it doesn't necessarily deserve.

ETA: To say 95% of the people are like that is crazy.

Whenever anyone tells me they participate in travel ball my first reaction is to roll my eyes. I know there are some level headed parents but most aren't. My nephews play and my brother is 100% convinced that they will both get college scholarships or go pro. And, in his defense, they are both good ball players, but it's all relative. Most travel ball players are pretty good since they play year round.

Kids that focus on one sport from a young age usually aren't very good athletes in my experience

Not sure if this has been posted........

James Andrews: Marcus Lattimore, running back from South Carolina -- his leg. Drew Brees' shoulder. I'll say this about Drew: It's amazing that he's been able to come back and throw a football, let alone play at the level he does.
