How are the Patriots always "there" at the end of the year?

They are like the Spurs of the NFL, always in the hunt.

Been a contender for 15 years running. must be nice eh?
They have great ownership and great coaching. Saban's daddy is their head coach.

Pretty much.
I'd be lying to say I am not envious.

They buy low and sell high with talent.
They will move a top-flight guy to stack picks and use those picks to move at will in the draft or as trade-bait for existing talent.
Also, Brady lets them shuffle his contract around and defer bonuses to free up cap space.

Great coach, QB, always seem to have a dozen draft picks and their division has been relatively weak for years.

Their QB doesn't have 4 kids.

Saints have a far more recent Super Bowl though

Brady doesn't have constant pressure up the middle

Their division is and has been freaking trash for a loooooong time. Yes they have been good but having a shite division helps out a lot.

Every year, they trade down or out of the first round, not up.

That trash division helps. They have no competition and all they need to do is win a couple against the rest of the NFL and they'll find themselves in the playoffs

proactive decisions by the front office, rather than reactive. aka Loomising

They play in the same division as the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills.
...and the NFC south gets shite

Ravens are proof we can get back in the hunt. The year they won the Super Bowl they lost a ton of crucial players to free agency then gave Flacco a deal that everyone said would prevent them from being able to rebuild effectively. And yet here they were in the hunt again. Sound like any team we know?
