OT docs question

My SO tripped Monday morning on a patio ledge and landed on some brick steps directly on her elbow. After three days of back and fourth the doc determined this morning she has a fracture within her elbow. Doc said to come in Monday and go from there. She is in a lot of unbearable pain.
So why if any reason would they take so long to treat the fracture with a cast or some other means? Any suggestions? TIA

Because it's not an emergency. It can be done as an outpatients surgery (I'm assuming) which is a hell of a lot cheaper than admitting just for pain management.

A quick fix doesn't always work. Sometimes it's best to let things fall to pieces and then start over from scratch

She's in unbearable pain? Have over the counter pain relievers been at all successful?

Problem is that she by natural instinct she moves her arm and will cry because of the pain. I believe it should be immobilized. She has a sling but that does very little

Don't put a rigid cast on a fracture too soon.
It's not done swelling.
And if the X-Ray needs to be squinted at to be read then it is not that bad.

Well I'm only licensed in Alabama. Louisiana bones might have different laws.

The problem is swelling in the joint combined with the humidity trapped in the cast can cause fungalbialistemy with could do even more damage.
She should soak it in shaved garlic, distilled water, and vinegar. That will pull out the swelling and allow for casting with in a day.
You can thank me later.

All depends on type of fracture. Which bone, location, alignment?

Pics.
We'll be the judge of whether heroic measures are called for in this case.

I broke my elbow and trust me you do not want a cast on it

Not sure about the specifics of the fracture but putting her off until Monday without much info seems unreasonable

You serious Clark?
Absolutely...the first thing they taught us in Orthopediatric school is...you should always garlic-douche a broken elbow!

That's the exact recipe I use for my pork butt marinade.
